Senior Software Engineer, Networking

NVIDIA•Santa Clara, CA
•$184,000 - $356,500

About The Position

NVIDIA’s Networking Business Unit develops chips, systems, and software for advanced data center and hyper-converged networks, including Ethernet switching platforms and SmartNICs such as the NVIDIA BlueField data processing unit. The Senior Software Engineer will develop software for data forwarding and network functions virtualization (NFV), including solutions for Ethernet switching platforms and SmartNIC offload. The role involves implementing and maintaining the core of Cumulus Linux, translating control-plane constructs into the hardware data plane, and developing end-to-end solutions. The engineer will work with modern development tools and gain knowledge of data center architectures and workload acceleration. The position collaborates with team members, architects, QA, and Support teams to define, develop, release, and fix defects in features. At senior levels, the engineer will lead and guide multifunctional teams on large feature-development activities.

Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of software development experience in data forwarding on Ethernet switching silicon and/or offload on SmartNICs.
  • Strong, validated experience in C programming.
  • Strong technical abilities, problem-solving, design, coding, and debugging skills.
  • Previous experience leading feature development and taking full ownership of tasks from A to Z, delivering independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to quickly understand new requirements and technologies and prototype and implement solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with merchant silicon for switching or routing.
  • Contributions to SONiC, SwitchDev, or Switch Abstraction Interface (SAI) projects.
  • Experience accelerating packet processing on Ethernet switching platforms.
  • Experience with virtualized networking, SR-IOV, container networking concepts, and networking functionality such as NAT, firewall, and load balancer.
  • Knowledge of Linux kernel networking and experience with control-plane operations in areas such as EVPN and Segment Routing.
  • Participation in the open-source community.
  • Python programming skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain forwarding and offload functionality, including routing, ACLs, QoS, CLAG, NAT, policy-based routing, and VxLAN-EVPN.
  • Develop data-forwarding solutions for Ethernet switching platforms and SmartNICs, based on the product roadmap.
  • Implement and maintain Cumulus Linux code that translates control-plane constructs into the hardware data plane and supports end-to-end solutions.
  • Collaborate with team members, architects, QA, and Support teams on feature definition, development, release, and defect fixing.
  • At senior levels, lead and guide multifunctional teams on large feature-development activities.
