Senior Software Engineer
About The Position
OCLC's Cloud Library team is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and support scalable cloud-based applications that serve libraries and their users around the world. This role requires a strong technical foundation, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to contribute across the software development lifecycle—from architecture and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support. The ideal candidate is a full-stack engineer who thrives in a cloud-native environment, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and can provide technical leadership while partnering closely with product, engineering, and operations teams. Full-Stack development experience is preferred.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science , Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, and/or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Strong experience developing scalable web applications and distributed systems.
- Experience working with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure.
- Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Java, C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Node.js.
- Experience working with relational database technologies.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Nice To Haves
- Full-Stack development experience is preferred.
- Experience with cloud-native application architecture and distributed systems.
- Experience supporting highly available , customer-facing SaaS applications.
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Experience with modern front-end frameworks such as React or Angular.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and code quality.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain complex software solutions within the Cloud Library platform.
- Build high-quality, scalable, secure, and maintainable applications across front-end and back-end systems.
- Develop and enhance cloud-native services and APIs supporting business-critical applications.
- Participate in all phases of software development, including requirements analysis, architecture, coding, testing, deployment, and support.
- Contribute to modernization initiatives and continuous improvement of systems and processes.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to engineering team members.
- Participate in architecture discussions and technical design reviews.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through collaboration, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
- Promote engineering best practices, design patterns, and coding standards.
- Help identify technical debt and recommend strategic improvements.
- Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to quality, security, and performance standards.
- Support CI/CD processes and DevOps practices to enable reliable software delivery.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues while participating in operational support activities.
- Participate in monitoring, observability, and incident response efforts.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of business objectives.
