Senior Software Engineer - Core Platform - Streaming & Storages
About The Position
StubHub is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Core Platform - Streaming & Storage team. The role designs, builds, and evolves streaming, messaging, and storage platforms that serve as critical infrastructure across StubHub’s engineering organization. The engineer leads the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, helps engineering teams address complex performance and reliability challenges, and modernizes services at the core of StubHub’s distributed systems. A key focus is decomposing large monolithic SQL Server data stores into purpose-built storage systems supported by mature streaming solutions and reliable data-access layers. The team owns foundational products including message queues, DQL, retry infrastructure, message versioning, messaging control planes, and storage platforms such as key-value databases, distributed caches, and blob storage. These systems support high-scale, reliable, event-driven services and business-critical workflows across listings, transactions, fulfillment, and customer experiences. The position involves setting technical direction, influencing architecture across teams, and delivering platform capabilities with measurable business impact. The position is hybrid, with three days in the office and two days remote, in New York, NY; Century City, CA; Aliso Viejo, CA; or San Francisco, CA.
Requirements
- At least 5–6 years of professional software development experience.
- Experience developing robust, mission-critical systems using one or more general-purpose programming languages, such as C/C++, Java, C#, or another object-oriented language.
- Expertise designing and optimizing distributed systems, including microservices architectures, caching strategies, and message queuing systems.
- Ability to analyze and improve system scalability, reliability, and performance metrics.
- Experience designing and developing solutions to complex problems with significant business impact.
- Strong understanding of how systems interact with the broader production environment, including dependencies and platform primitives.
- Ability to learn other programming languages, platforms, frameworks, and tools.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Experience owning projects from initial idea through production.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop SDKs, services, shared packages, and tools that improve engineering efficiency and productivity.
- Develop an intuitive, cross-language, performant runtime environment to serve as a container for business- and customer-facing services.
- Architect and implement high-performance, scalable services used by internal customers.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in distributed caching and messaging, including associated design patterns.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to identify technical inefficiencies and propose scalable solutions and engineering patterns.
- Drive initiatives to improve platform performance and scalability.
- Champion software development best practices and high standards of quality and efficiency.
- Lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities and help teams address complex performance and reliability challenges.
- Help modernize services and decompose large monolithic SQL Server data stores into purpose-built storage systems supported by streaming solutions and reliable data-access layers.
- Own projects from initial idea through production and mentor junior engineers.
- Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and contribute to a positive, inclusive team culture.
