About The Position

Anduril's Maritime Division is transforming American sea power through Arsenal-2, a software-defined shipyard under construction in Baltimore County, Maryland, and a 160,000-square-foot Proto-Factory in Orange County, California. The Proto-Factory is a prototyping hub for Arsenal-2, developing advanced manufacturing methods, digital workflows, and quality systems. The Senior Software Engineer will own the Vehicle Management System (VMS) for a maritime autonomous vehicle. Reporting to the Cognitive Systems Lead, this role designs supervisory software that monitors vehicle health, manages operational modes, responds to faults, and coordinates vehicle subsystems. The vehicle undertakes multi-day missions without an operator link, making the VMS responsible for deciding whether a degraded vehicle continues, aborts, or surfaces. The role includes designing VMS architecture and state machines, developing fault response logic, defining interfaces across subsystems, supporting simulation and hardware-in-the-loop testing, and participating in integration and at-sea validation. Travel to test sites may be up to 25%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of experience in vehicle management systems, flight management, or supervisory control software.
  • Experience with real-time embedded software for vehicle platforms.
  • Familiarity with FDIR design and operational mode management.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Experience setting up an integration lab.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AUV, UUV, or UAV management systems.
  • Working knowledge of safety-critical software design patterns.
  • Experience with C++ or Rust for embedded vehicle software.
  • Experience in defense or maritime robotics.
  • Experience doing a test and validation campaign.

Responsibilities

  • Own VMS architecture, including health monitoring, mode management, and fault response.
  • Design vehicle state machines and operational mode transitions.
  • Develop fault detection, isolation, and recovery (FDIR) logic.
  • Define VMS interfaces with GN&C, energy, communications, and mission systems.
  • Manage route planning and casualty monitoring functions.
  • Support SITL/HITL testing of VMS behaviors.
  • Interface with all vehicle subsystem leads on integration.
  • Support at-sea testing and validation.
  • Travel up to 25% to test sites.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers.
  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees, available at little to no cost to employees.
