Senior Software Engineer (March 2026)

Waystation AITemecula, CA
Onsite

About The Position

CPG is a $4T industry that impacts what we eat, what we put on our bodies, and how products reach our lives—and the procurement workflows behind it are still stuck in email and spreadsheets. Waystation is the AI-native system of record for CPG procurement. We connect to a team’s existing inbox and use AI to capture, structure, and organize supplier communications—quotes, specs, COAs, certifications, lead times—into a shared, searchable workspace. No portals, no behavior change, no manual data entry. You’ll own large swaths of the product end-to-end—from talking through a problem with the PM to having it live in production. We’re a TypeScript/Node shop and you’ll work across the full stack: customer-facing UI, APIs and data models, AI integrations, and infrastructure decisions that will carry us through the next 18 months of growth. This isn’t a role where you’ll get a detailed spec handed to you—you’ll often start with a fuzzy customer problem and figure out the right thing to build. We’re looking for someone who finds that energizing.

Requirements

  • ~8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with meaningful time building web applications. Our stack is TypeScript/Node/React — experience there is a plus but not required if you’re a strong engineer eager to learn
  • Product builder mindset. You care about the outcome for the user — not just the code you wrote. You think about the “why” as much as the “how”
  • Strong sense of ownership. You see something broken and fix it without being asked
  • AI-native workflow. You’re already using AI coding agents/assistants (Copilot, Cursor, Claude, etc.) in your day-to-day work and can speak to how it changes your process. You’re excited about AI’s potential, not wary of it
  • Excellent communicator and collaborator. You write clearly, explain technical decisions to non-technical teammates, think out loud when pairing, and are the kind of person people love working with
  • Comfortable with ambiguity. You’d rather ship something imperfect and learn than debate the perfect solution
  • Curiosity as a default. You stay current on tools, techniques, and what’s happening in AI—not because someone tells you to, but because you can’t help it

Responsibilities

  • Own features from concept through production—scoping, building, shipping, and iterating based on what you learn
  • Make architectural decisions with the team (we’re still early enough that these choices matter a lot)
  • Work directly with our PM/designer and founder to shape what we build next
  • Raise the bar for engineering quality—testing, observability, code review—without slowing things down
  • Talk to customers regularly to understand the problem space firsthand

Benefits

  • Competitive salary + meaningful early-stage equity
  • Unlimited vacation
  • Full health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Small team, outsized ownership, direct line to customers and company direction
