About The Position

AxisCare is hiring a full-time, fully remote Senior Software Engineer to help build, ship, and maintain the market-leading SaaS platform powering the home care industry. The role involves reimagining how software is made in the age of AI, focusing on engineers who can leverage AI tools effectively to accelerate the development process while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability. The position requires a deep understanding of customer problems, the ability to solve them with high-quality software, and the skill to run that software reliably in production.

Requirements

Product-minded engineer who thoroughly analyzes user problems before developing solutions.

AI power user with practical experience driving AI agents on real codebases and understanding model limitations.
Quality-conscious builder focused on creating high-quality, maintainable software.
Strong writer, essential for remote work and clear communication, especially when leveraging AI.
Ability to act as a team lead for 1-2 engineers and independently manage substantial features from concept to completion.
5+ years of professional software engineering experience on teams building full-stack cloud-native web applications.
Experience with PHP or another object-oriented language.
Experience with React apps in TypeScript.
Experience building well-structured, comprehensible, and maintainable software that balances practicality and elegance.
Experience with MySQL, including both PHP-based ORMs and raw SQL.
Experience designing and building RESTful APIs, and integrating with third-party APIs.
Ability to work remotely from the Eastern, Central, or Mountain time zones.
Qualified to work in the United States or Canada.

Nice To Haves

Experience building HIPAA-compliant software.
Experience with EMR/EHR systems used in clinical care.
Concrete examples of AI-enabled workflows built that have significantly changed team shipping processes (e.g., custom agents, evals, prompt libraries, internal tooling).

Responsibilities

Collaborate with product leaders to explore possibilities and prototype aggressively, often putting working software in front of stakeholders before the traditional PRD process is complete, and iterating quickly.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers in code design, systems thinking, and effective use of AI agents, including discerning when to trust AI output, when to discard it, and how to maintain code quality with AI assistance.
Write backend business logic, extend the API, integrate with third-party services, build frontend UI, and address issues across the codebase, utilizing AI as a force multiplier.
Improve system performance and resilience, upgrade the tech stack, and pursue ambitious projects that were previously too costly to attempt.
Take ownership of shipped features in production, ensuring system reliability as a core feature due to the critical nature of the software for home care agencies.
