As a Senior Software Engineer within Optum Insight, you will be part of an innovative engineering team dedicated to designing, developing, and deploying enterprise-scale software applications, analytics platforms, and AI-powered solutions. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate machine learning models, build intelligent automations, and architect scalable, high-performance software systems that simplify and enhance clinical, administrative, and financial processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree OR 4+ years of software development experience
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering enterprise-level applications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot framework development
- 3+ years of experience designing, building, and deploying AI-powered applications, machine learning workflows, or intelligent automations
- 3+ years of experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs, microservices architectures, and data pipelines
- 3+ years of experience working with relational or non-relational database management systems
- 2+ years of experience working with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- 2+ years of experience integrating AI/ML frameworks, libraries, or APIs into production software applications
- 2+ years of experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) toolchains (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions)
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Python programming for software development, data processing, or AI model integration
- Experience with cloud-native AI/ML services (e.g., AWS SageMaker, Azure OpenAI, GCP Vertex AI)
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Familiarity with MLOps practices, model monitoring, versioning, and automated testing frameworks
- Experience with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue.js)
- Experience working within the healthcare technology industry or regulated domain environments
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve full-lifecycle software applications and AI-powered solutions to address complex business challenges with an emphasis on responsible use of AI
- Design, build, and integrate artificial intelligence capabilities, machine learning pipelines, and intelligent automation into enterprise software products
- Use enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, and drive continuous software engineering improvement
- Evaluate emerging trends, frameworks, and technologies to inform solution design, architecture, and strategic technology innovation
- Collaborate with software architects, data scientists, product managers, and engineering teams to define application requirements and solution specifications
- Conduct code and architecture reviews, provide constructive technical feedback, and mentor junior and mid-level software engineers
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve performance bottlenecks, model integration issues, and system defects across production environments
- Drive continuous integration, continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline enhancements, and automated testing for software and model workflows
