About The Position

SciTec, a subsidiary of Firefly Aerospace, is a defense contractor specializing in advanced technologies for U.S. National Security and Defense. For over 45 years, SciTec has supported Department of Defense customers by developing innovative remote sensing algorithms, tools, and techniques for data exploitation in areas such as missile defense, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, space domain awareness, and aircraft survivability. This role is for a Sr Staff/Senior Software Engineer to support programs delivering Missile Defense Solution software in an operational setting. The position involves fast-paced, end-to-end software processing of Overhead Persistent InfraRed (OPIR) sensor data for various defense applications. The role requires customer-facing onsite support, system optimization, troubleshooting, and reporting software defects. The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer adept at troubleshooting and providing solutions in an onsite, customer-facing environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, or a related technical field
  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • An active TS/SCI DoD security clearance
  • 3+ years of professional experience working in Linux environments
  • Solid understanding of software engineering best practices and commitment to high-quality code
  • Demonstrated performance optimization skills for data-intensive or compute-intensive systems
  • Ability to work onsite in-person at Buckley Space Force Base in Aurora, Colorado
  • Effective communication skills and attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • An advanced degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, or a related technical field
  • Experience working with mission critical data processing workflows for remotely sensed data (OPIR, EO/IR, SAR, Spectral, RF or similar)
  • Experience with software development, integration, and deployment within government frameworks
  • Knowledge of cloud environments and transitioning from on-prem solutions
  • Experience with software containerization and orchestration, including Docker or Podman and Kubernetes
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools, including Jira and Confluence
  • Experience with operational planning activities
  • Experience providing customer support and help desk activities

Responsibilities

  • Support the availability, reliability, and performance of operational services supporting critical mission systems
  • Monitor health of software infrastructure using metrics, logs, and alerts; respond to and resolve incidents; maintain and enhance monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions
  • Perform root-cause analysis for infrastructure and service outages; implement corrective and preventative actions; participate in post-incident reviews
  • Improve system reliability through automation, standardization, and proactive engineering
  • Support software system lifecycle activities including upgrades, patches, and configuration changes
  • Improve performance, scalability, and reliability of existing software systems
  • Apply strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and performance trade-offs
  • Support integration, testing, and debugging in Linux environments
  • Support documentation, knowledge sharing, training, and clear communication across the organization
  • Perform other duties as assigned
