About The Position

Schoolhouse is seeking Senior Software Engineers to join their 5-person engineering team. In this role, you will own full-stack features used by hundreds of thousands of learners and tutors globally. Engineers at Schoolhouse have significant ownership, working directly with designers and stakeholders to develop new experiments and improve existing operations. The position involves tackling challenges at the intersection of UX, people operations, and technology to ensure high-quality and safe interactions between students worldwide. Examples of past projects include building an AI simulation for tutors, experimenting with new ways to connect tutors with learners, and creating a moderation system for safety issues.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a full-stack software engineer.
  • Track record of leading full-stack projects from ambiguous problem through launch and iteration.
  • Ability to anticipate risks and make decisions that balance tradeoffs between speed, quality, and user experience.
  • Experience with Typescript, Node.js, React, Next.js, and Postgres (or ability to ramp up quickly).
  • Focus on building for users and understanding their needs.
  • Ability to move quickly while maintaining code quality.
  • Ability to fill in gaps, work independently, and take on additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Availability to work in a US timezone.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep technical experience with Typescript, Node.js, React, Next.js, Postgres, AWS, and GCP.
  • Experience building mobile apps.
  • Experience working in education or on an ed-tech product.

Responsibilities

  • Work with users and teammates to define problems, contribute product ideas, and lead work from prototypes / experiments through deployment.
  • Break ambiguous work into manageable steps, coordinating contributions when needed.
  • Write simple, readable code and create / improve patterns that make future work easier.
  • Help teammates grow through code reviews and pairing sessions.
