Senior Software Engineer - Infrastructure
About The Position
Pie Insurance is seeking a Senior Software Engineer focused on infrastructure to help build and operate applications and services that enable consumers, partners, and agents to manage commercial insurance policies. This role contributes to the design and architecture of scalable, secure, robust systems and supports the company as it grows. The engineer will define and evolve AWS infrastructure as code using CDK, applying application-code standards for review, testing, and releases. The position also supports security and compliance practices appropriate to a regulated industry, including SOC2 and similar audits. The engineer works closely with product management, designers, stakeholders, fellow engineers, and support and operations teams. They contribute to code reviews, continuous delivery pipelines, production issue response, and on-call operations, while building modular, reusable software primarily in TypeScript. AI-powered development tools are part of the daily workflow.
Requirements
- Expertise in AWS technologies, best practices, and architecture.
- Experience using AWS CDK in TypeScript.
- Deep understanding of network topology, including VPC, Security Groups, and Route53, and IAM access controls.
- Experience crafting technical solutions across greenfield and brownfield projects, with adaptability, independence, and autonomy.
- Expertise with CI/CD best practices and continuous integration and delivery using GitHub.
- Strong backend and infrastructure software engineering expertise, including TypeScript.
- Proficiency using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or Cursor as a core part of the development workflow.
- An Agile mindset focused on small, incremental improvements that provide customer value.
- A growth mindset, openness to feedback, and proactive learning across technical and non-technical skills.
- Personal accountability and consistent delivery of high-quality, secure, performance-optimized code.

Responsibilities
- Define and evolve AWS infrastructure as code using CDK, with review, testing, and release discipline comparable to application code.
- Apply security and compliance practices appropriate to a regulated industry, supporting SOC2 and similar audits.
- Participate in peer code reviews across application and infrastructure changes.
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code, primarily in TypeScript.
- Collaborate with product management, designers, stakeholders, and fellow engineers throughout development.
- Help shape the design and architecture of scalable, secure, and robust systems and applications.
- Deliver software using continuous delivery pipelines and help enhance and optimize those pipelines.
- Assist support and operations teams by triaging and resolving production issues in a timely manner.
- Build modular and reusable code while adhering to industry standards and best practices.
- Participate in on-call rotations and seek opportunities to improve operational stability and system visibility.
- Continuously learn and keep up to date with software engineering best practices and new technologies.
- Use AI-powered development tools such as Claude Code and Cursor to accelerate code generation, testing, and documentation.
