About The Position

We are searching for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Space Launch System (SLS) Flight Software (FSW) Design Team, playing a pivotal role in the continued success of the Artemis mission. In this position, you will assume full ownership of mission-critical, human-rated flight software components, contributing directly to the design and development of the SLS vehicle that will propel humans back to the Moon.

Requirements

  • A degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Ph.D. with a minimum of 9 years of experience, Master’s with at least 13 years, or Bachelor’s with at least 15 years.
  • Must be a US Citizen and have a STAR ID.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in designing, developing, and testing real-time embedded spaceflight or complex mission-critical system software, adhering to both organizational and project coding standards, as well as NASA standards and practices.
  • Strong background in Object-Oriented Design and Implementation, with advanced expertise in C/C++ programming.
  • Experience with a variety of scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, bash/shell, etc.) and development environments (Eclipse, Visual Studio, etc.).
  • Familiarity with real-time operating systems such as VxWorks and common tools including the Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence) and Git/GitHub.
  • Knowledge of continuous integration practices and Agile development processes.
  • Skilled in SW/HW integration, debugging, troubleshooting, and handling various communication/protocol interfaces (ethernet, RS422, 1553, etc.).
  • Competence in Unified Modeling Language (UML) and experience collaborating within a software development team in an Agile environment.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication skills, enabling professional interactions with customers, stakeholders, and cross-organizational colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree from an ABET-accredited university is preferred.
  • Hands-on involvement in integrating, troubleshooting, executing, and testing spaceflight software in both hardware-in-the-loop and simulated environments.
  • Professional Agile/Scrum training.
  • Knowledge of fault-tolerant avionics architectures.
