About The Position

The Senior Software Engineer in AI/ML Platforms designs and implements core components of Nike’s data science services and platform, scaling them to serve the company globally. The role operates at the intersection of computer systems and machine learning and collaborates with data science and analytics teams to deliver scalable, performant, and reliable solutions.

The engineer develops services and paved-path solutions that enable Nike data scientists and ML engineers to train, serve, and manage models. The role also evaluates AI/ML platform services and capabilities, works with users to anticipate platform needs across algorithm development, model training and management, data engineering, and model serving, and contributes to architecture, technical design, and code reviews. These platform capabilities support AI/ML applications such as personalization, recommendations, smart search, digital demand sensing, and scheduling across Nike’s digital experiences and business operations.

The position is based at Nike’s worldwide campus headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, with a 4/1 hybrid schedule: Monday through Thursday in the office, with Friday work either from the campus or from a home office. Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or a suitable combination of education, experience, and training.
• Strong computer science fundamentals.
• At least 5 years of professional software development experience.
• Ability to design, build, and manage a technical feature or capability.
• Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, Python, or Golang.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and DevOps practices and technologies such as Terraform.
• Experience with cloud services, such as AWS EC2, S3, DynamoDB, or Azure Cloud.
• Experience developing and using microservices.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills for technical and non-technical topics.
• Knowledge of AI/ML concepts, including ML serving and training, GenAI/agents, RAG, A/B testing, model experimentation, and MCP.
• Platform experience with authentication, CI/CD, and observability.
• Experience with big data technologies such as Spark.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement core components of data science services and platforms, scaling them to serve Nike globally.
• Develop and implement services and paved-path solutions that enable data scientists and ML engineers.
• Enable and accelerate model training, model serving, and model management.
• Evaluate new AI/ML platform services and capabilities for possible long-term approaches.
• Work with the user community to anticipate platform and service needs for algorithm development, model training, model management, data engineering, and model serving.
• Participate in architecture, technical design, and code reviews to improve engineering practices.
• Collaborate with Agent Developers, Data Scientists, ML Engineers, and Product teams to deliver platform capabilities that accelerate and streamline ML use cases.
• Work with teams integrating ML capabilities into Nike experiences and business applications.
