About The Position

Cox Automotive Corporate Services, LLC is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Austin, Texas. This role involves collaborating with Product Management to understand customer and end-user challenges and designing viable solutions. The engineer will recommend improvements to processes, technology, and interfaces to enhance team effectiveness and reduce technical debt. Key responsibilities include anticipating component usage capacity requirements, identifying limitations, contributing to story sizing, backlog grooming, and release planning, and developing product and solution designs for complex problems. The role requires building software applications across multiple platforms, understanding technical architecture, writing software and automated tests aligned with standards, performing troubleshooting, and providing ongoing support, monitoring, and maintenance for deployed products. Additionally, the Senior Software Engineer will mentor less-experienced engineers, provide technical guidance, and actively participate in the engineering community by staying updated on new technologies and best practices, sharing insights within the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science or a related field and 4 years of experience in designing, coding, testing, correcting, and documenting programs and scripts from agreed specifications, and subsequent iterations, using agreed standards and tools.
  • 4 years of experience in designing, developing, and implementing of highly scalable, high-volume software systems and components, client-facing web applications, and major Internet-oriented applications and systems.
  • Experience or graduate-level coursework in ensuring adherence to relevant technical strategies, policies, standards or practices.
  • Experience or graduate-level coursework in conducting reviews of own work and leading reviews of colleagues' work.
  • Experience or graduate-level coursework in establishing standards and procedures across the technology service lifecycle (including the development lifecycle) in the areas of systems integration and testing and ensuring adherence.
  • Experience or graduate-level coursework in managing application enhancements to improve business performance.
  • Experience or graduate-level coursework in creating applications from conception and design to implementation and support.
  • Experience or graduate-level coursework in managing web hosted applications using a modern cloud provider (AWS, Azure or GCP).
  • Experience or graduate-level coursework in working with Agile application development practices.
  • Experience or graduate-level coursework in analyzing data and working with SQL and relational databases.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Product Management to understand customer and end-user challenges and partner to design viable solutions.
  • Recommend viable solutions to processes, technology, and interfaces that improve the effectiveness of the team and reduce technical debt.
  • Foresee capacity requirements for component usage and identify limitations.
  • Provide input into story sizing, backlog grooming, and release planning.
  • Contribute to product and solution designs to address critical issues and complex problems.
  • Build software applications across multiple platforms in response to the needs of stakeholders.
  • Understand technical architecture and write software and automated tests that are aligned with agreed upon standards.
  • Perform trouble-shooting efforts and investigations when necessary.
  • Provide ongoing support, monitoring, and maintenance of deployed products.
  • Actively work with less-experienced software engineers providing technical guidance and oversight.
  • Actively participate in the engineering community, staying up to date on new software technologies and best practices and shares insights with others in the organization.
