About The Position

Weedmaps is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build products used by consumers and business clients, working AI-first. This product engineering role ships features across the consumer marketplace, administrative tools for dispensaries and brands, and the services behind them. The engineer uses coding agents such as Claude Code and Weedmaps' in-house agent, Rhizome, while remaining accountable for the quality of the resulting work. The role involves turning ambiguous product problems into clear plans, dividing work into well-scoped tasks for agents and teammates, and reviewing and owning the results. The engineer partners with Product, Design, and the AI Platform team, which builds shared agent tooling. The work also includes modernizing the technology stack, building useful AI-powered product capabilities, supporting teammates in adopting AI tools, and participating in on-call for owned services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 6 years of professional software development experience, including shipping customer-facing product features end to end.
  • Daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot on production work, with concrete examples of their impact and how quality is maintained.
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript and React.
  • Experience designing and building APIs and services, ideally with Node.js, applying good testing practices, and working across a polyglot codebase that includes Ruby.
  • Experience with a major cloud platform, preferably AWS, CI/CD that deploys directly to production, and observability tooling.
  • A track record of measuring the results of work through A/B tests, product metrics, or clear before-and-after results.

Nice To Haves

  • React Native or mobile app development experience.
  • Experience building LLM-powered product features such as search, recommendations, or data extraction.
  • Two-sided marketplace or e-commerce experience, including cart, checkout, or payments.
  • Experience with feature flags, gradual rollouts, and ephemeral environments.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or leading projects across several teams.
  • Ruby on Rails or Elixir experience, or experience moving features out of a monolith.
  • Experience at a marketplace, e-commerce, or regulated-industry company.

Responsibilities

  • Ship end-to-end product features across the consumer marketplace (web and React Native), Admin tools for dispensaries and brands, and the Node.js and Rails services behind them.
  • Use AI coding tools and agents to plan, write, test, and review code, applying personal judgment about when to work directly on a task.
  • Own the quality of shipped work through clear designs, solid tests, careful review, and telemetry to evaluate whether changes worked.
  • Break epics into well-scoped tickets and write specifications and context that help agents and teammates produce reliable work.
  • Partner with Product and Design to clarify ambiguous problems, use data to inform decisions, and focus on outcomes.
  • Modernize the stack by moving features from Rails and legacy Elixir services into Node.js microservices and React Native, using feature flags and gradual rollouts.
  • Build AI-powered product capabilities where useful, such as search, recommendations, and catalog data quality, in partnership with AI Platform and Data teams.
  • Share AI workflows and skills, pair with engineers who are newer to AI tools, and contribute improvements to the shared agent platform.
  • Participate in on-call for owned services and address problems at their root.
