Senior Software Engineer (RC-3)
About The Position
The Senior Software Engineer supports the design, development, maintenance, and enhancement of complex software systems across varied technical environments. The role develops scalable software solutions, implements advanced algorithms, integrates applications, and optimizes system performance to meet functional, technical, and performance requirements. The Engineer analyzes user requirements, designs and develops applications, enhances existing systems, and troubleshoots complex technical issues. Work involves modern frontend and backend frameworks, APIs, databases, containerization, and cloud infrastructure, as well as integrating software into new and existing environments and ensuring application performance, reliability, and scalability. The position provides technical leadership across software development teams, oversees software design and implementation, and contributes to improvements in development processes, testing procedures, and technical documentation. It involves working across the full software development lifecycle, collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams, and independently addressing complex software challenges in demanding technical environments. The position is in Columbia, Maryland, and requires a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
Requirements
- Twenty (20) years of experience in software engineering, including designing, developing, maintaining, and enhancing complex software systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or four (4) years of additional relevant software engineering experience in substitution for the degree.
- Experience analyzing user requirements and translating them into software design, functional, and performance requirements.
- Experience designing, developing, debugging, testing, and maintaining software applications.
- Experience developing and implementing complex algorithms and optimizing software performance.
- Experience integrating existing software into new or modified systems and operating environments.
- Experience designing and implementing database interfaces, queries, and data repositories.
- Experience developing software solutions involving large datasets, real-time processing, or performance-intensive applications.
- Experience troubleshooting software defects, resolving technical issues, and improving existing applications.
- Experience developing and executing software testing procedures and ensuring software quality.
- Experience collaborating with systems engineers, hardware engineers, and other technical teams to support software design and integration.
- Experience developing and maintaining software documentation, technical procedures, and development standards.
- Experience leading software development teams, coordinating technical activities, and overseeing software quality and delivery.
- Experience evaluating and recommending new technologies, development methodologies, and software engineering improvements.
- TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.
