About The Position

Microsoft is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Cloud+AI Azure Data Team. The team builds and operates Azure Data services in a Secure Work Area, including infrastructure for collaboration in an air-gapped environment. Its work enables internal and external customers in highly secure and regulated industries to use Azure services. Systems and software developed in this role must meet the security policy and assurance requirements of public- and private-sector customers. The Azure Data engineering organization builds products across databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging and real-time analytics, and business intelligence. Its portfolio includes Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL Databases, Azure Cosmos Databases, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Service Bus, and Azure Event Grid. The organization’s mission is to build a data platform for the age of AI, powering data-first applications and a data culture. The engineer develops and reviews software, contributes to design and architecture, investigates and prevents incidents, and applies security, privacy, compliance, reliability, and maintainability practices. The role also involves disciplined use of AI tools across the software development lifecycle and collaboration with other engineers and architects.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 4+ years of technical engineering experience coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
Must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with Polygraph.
Must meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements before offer and after hire, and maintain the required clearance and screening status.
Must successfully verify the stated security clearance for federal government customer requirements.
Must pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
U.S. citizenship verification is required due to citizenship-based legal restrictions.

Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 8+ years of technical engineering experience coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

Use appropriate AI tools and practices across the software development lifecycle, and review AI-generated changes using appropriate tools and processes.
Use debugging, tests, logs, telemetry, and other methods to proactively verify assumptions for production features.
Conduct incident retrospectives, identify root causes, implement repairs, and help prevent recurrence.
Apply least-access principles and use appropriate mechanisms to investigate issues while retaining privacy and security.
Review feature and test code for team standards, test coverage, suitability, coding patterns, security risks, compliance, and best practices.
Provide timely code reviews and feedback that improve code quality and help develop other engineers’ skills.
Use automated source-code analysis tools incorporated into build and development processes.
Create and implement product, service, or feature code, reusing code where appropriate and writing extensible, maintainable code.
Escalate blockers and unknowns, communicate their timeline impact, and help identify ways to address them.
Understand and provide feedback on architecture proposals, explore design options, and collaborate with architects and engineers on product or solution features.
Contribute to design documents supporting user stories and product requirements, and share investigation findings with the team.
Help ensure system architecture and designs meet performance, scalability, resiliency, cost-of-goods-sold, security, privacy, and compliance requirements.
Contribute to product-feature refinement by sharing analysis findings to inform engineering decisions.
Develop awareness of the current technology landscape and build on the work of others.
