Senior Software Engineer

About The Position

We're looking for a senior software engineer who enjoys working close to math: numerically precise, performance-sensitive C++ code that solves real-world geometric and manufacturing problems. You'll join the team that builds the engine responsible for generating machine-ready NC (numerical control) code — the software that turns a CAD design and a toolpath into instructions a CNC machine can run. This is a hands-on engineering role with real ownership from early on. You'll ramp up by pairing with senior members of the team, working through real defects and features, and building deep fluency in a codebase where correctness genuinely matters — a subtle bug here doesn't just crash a program, it can produce an incorrect machining instruction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Strong, hands-on experience with modern C++ (C++11 or later) - comfortable reading, reasoning about, and safely modifying dense, performance-sensitive code written by others.
  • 5+ years of professional C++ software development experience.
  • Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
  • Working knowledge of 3D math fundamentals (vectors, matrices, transforms).
  • Demonstrated ability to work through ambiguous or sparsely documented code with patience and curiosity.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in CAD/CAM, CNC/G-code, or manufacturing software — a strong plus, but we are equally interested in candidates from adjacent math-heavy C++ domains.
  • Computational geometry (NURBS, B-rep, surface/curve intersection) or 3D graphics/visualization (OpenGL, DirectX, or similar).
  • Background in game/graphics engines, robotics or motion planning, physics/numerical simulation, scientific computing — any of these translate well.
  • Experience with Git-based workflows and modern CI/CD practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and test features and enhancements in the NC code generation engine and its immediate dependencies.
  • Investigate and resolve defects in numerically sensitive, geometry-driven code, exercising judgment on when a quick patch is appropriate versus when a deeper fix is warranted.
  • Write and maintain unit and integration tests for code where correctness is difficult to verify by inspection alone.
  • Participate actively in code reviews - both receiving feedback and, as you grow in the role, reviewing others' work for logic, standards, and numerical correctness.
  • Collaborate with QA and product teams to translate manufacturing/CAM requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Document your growing understanding of the system as you build it, contributing to the team's collective knowledge rather than keeping it individually.

Benefits

  • Exceptional Medical, Dental, Vision insurances
  • Health Savings Accounts with employer contribution (HSA)
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
  • 401k Plan with generous employer match
  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Tuition Reimbursement
