About The Position

PlanIT Group is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support our Federal customer in the Washington, DC area. The ideal candidate will be proficient in DCL (Digital Command Language) scripting and RMS (OpenVMS Record Management System – Indexed files). Have demonstrated software development expertise and experience with OpenVMS Macro Assembly for at least 5 years. Have demonstrated software development experience with TCP and UDP protocols and XML and Json message formats. Have experience in full product life cycle. Requirements

  • Proficient in DCL (Digital Command Language) scripting and RMS (OpenVMS Record Management System – Indexed files)
  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, or similar field
  • Minimum 8 to 10 years' experience in software engineering
  • Demonstrated software development expertise and experience with OpenVMS Macro Assembly for at least 5 years
  • Demonstrated software development experience with TCP and UDP protocols and XML and Json message formats
  • Experience in full product life cycle
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
  • Pass both a client mandated clearance process to include drug screening, criminal history check and credit check.
  • All candidates must be a US Citizen
  • Candidate must have lived in the United States for the past 5 years.
  • Cannot have more than 6 months travel outside the United States within the last five years. Military Service excluded. (Exception does not include military family members.)

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in software engineering, computer science, or similar field
  • Experience in Public Safety Solutions
  • Experience with computer aided dispatch systems
  • Minimum 8 to 10 years' experience in OpenVMS operating system
  • Minimum 8 to 10 years' experience performing software engineering in an Agile environment

Responsibilities

  • Implement feature enhancements and other changes for a suite of software products marketed to the public safety domain
  • Develop solutions primarily using OpenVMS Macro Assembly. Use of other technologies expected
  • Collaborate with systems engineers to gain understanding of system requirements
  • Implement system requirements to meet user needs
  • Assist with the development of estimates for levels of effort for proposed changes
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure software quality
