About The Position

Osano is seeking a product-minded Senior Software Engineer to own meaningful parts of its privacy platform end to end, from shaping problems with Product through operating solutions in production. The engineer will work across a React front end, Node.js services, PostgreSQL data stores, and AWS infrastructure, partnering closely with Product, Design, QA, and Security. This is a fully remote role for someone based in and authorized to work in the United States; in-person interviews may be required in Austin, Texas. The role emphasizes using AI coding tools and assistants throughout the software development lifecycle to increase effectiveness while remaining accountable for the accuracy, security, and privacy of all work. The engineer will help the team establish effective practices for AI-assisted engineering, automate repetitive work, and ensure customer and personal data are only used with AI tools through approved, privacy-safe paths. The engineer will lead multi-sprint projects, shape scope and tradeoffs with Product, document technical decisions, and measure outcomes. They will build systems with observability, feature flags, and rollback paths; participate in triage and on-call rotations; lead incident response and follow through on postmortems; and address technical debt, security, and privacy requirements. They will also provide reviews and mentorship, contribute to hiring, and strengthen the team's software development and operational practices.

Requirements

  • Typically 5 or more years building and shipping production software; ownership and impact are valued more than years alone.
  • Track record of leading multi-sprint projects from design to production in a team setting.
  • Strong JavaScript/Node.js and React experience.
  • Solid relational database skills; PostgreSQL is preferred.
  • Strong system design fundamentals, including data modeling, API design, and articulating tradeoffs.
  • Experience owning production systems, including on-call, incident response, and observability.
  • Hands-on, day-to-day use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot, with concrete examples of improved individual or team effectiveness and ways of verifying output.
  • Experience mentoring other engineers.
  • Strong written communication skills in a remote, asynchronous environment.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to create clarity through good design and clear writing.
  • Must be based in and authorized to work in the United States.
  • Availability for at least four hours of overlap each day with the team's core hours.

Nice To Haves

  • AWS experience, including ECS/Fargate, Lambda, S3, or RDS, especially multi-region or data-residency work.
  • Experience in privacy-, security-, or compliance-sensitive B2B SaaS, including GDPR, CCPA, or SOC 2.
  • Experience building AI-powered automations, agent workflows, or LLM-based product features.
  • Experience with data and analytics tooling such as Redshift or Athena, or with event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with CI/CD, preview or ephemeral environments, or end-to-end testing such as Cypress.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multi-sprint projects from design through rollout, translating loosely defined problems into actionable plans and delivering close to estimates.
  • Design durable systems and write design documents and decision records that evaluate alternatives.
  • Partner with Product on scope, MVP cuts, phasing, and tradeoffs, and measure whether shipped work helps customers.
  • Use AI coding agents and assistants across code exploration, scaffolding, testing, debugging, refactoring, migrations, and code review.
  • Verify and understand AI-generated code, and exercise judgment about where AI should not be trusted.
  • Automate repetitive engineering work through scripts, agent workflows, and checks.
  • Help define team practices for AI tools and for reviewing and verifying AI-assisted work.
  • Use AI responsibly, keeping customer and personal data out of AI tools except through approved, privacy-safe paths.
  • Build observability, feature flags, and rollback paths into work from the start.
  • Participate in triage and on-call rotations, lead incident response for the team's systems, and complete postmortem follow-ups.
  • Identify technical debt, estimate it, and advocate for including it in plans.
  • Apply privacy-by-design measures, including data minimization, residency, retention, and access controls.
  • Write secure code and fix vulnerabilities in the engineer's area as part of normal work.
  • Provide effective code and design reviews.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and improve team practices for testing, reviewing, and operating software.
  • Interview candidates and contribute to hiring.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay compensation and ownership interest/equity.
  • Unlimited paid time off, with a requirement to take at least two weeks off per year.
  • Paid parental leave for all new parents.
  • Osano-sponsored premiums for individual base plans at 100% and dependent premiums at 50% for Aetna medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Fully and permanently remote work from anywhere in the United States.
  • MacBook and $600 to craft a home workspace.
  • Annual company trip designed to foster connection, creativity, and fun.
  • Mental health benefits, including free memberships to mindfulness and talk therapy services.
  • Access to a training program, well-defined career paths, and professional development support.
