About The Position

ServiceCore builds the software that runs the portable sanitation and liquid waste industry. The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for the technical quality of the software, including system design, architectural decisions, and reducing technical debt. The role involves working as a technical anchor in a small, cross-functional pod focused on accounting and payments, collaborating with Product and Design. Responsibilities include mentoring junior engineers, participating in customer discovery, and maintaining quality through code reviews and testing strategies. Key projects include migrating batch billing processing to Go worker routines and transforming the invoicing experience into a reusable SDK. The tech stack includes Angular & TypeScript (frontend), PHP/Laminas Framework (API), Go (payment processing services), MySQL, AWS, and React Native (legacy Ionic) for mobile. The company operates fully remotely with an annual in-person gathering and quarterly team planning. A hybrid option is available for those near Denver, CO.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with clear ownership of complex, production systems.
  • Strong command of backend development (PHP, Go, Java, or similar) and relational databases (MySQL/MariaDB preferred).
  • Experience writing Go, or a track record of quickly learning and mastering new languages.
  • Solid frontend experience with a modern framework (Angular preferred, React or Vue considered).
  • Experience building reusable components or shared libraries for consumption by other teams.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (Claude preferred; Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar) as a regular part of the workflow.
  • Demonstrable ability to architect systems, having made and defended significant technical decisions.
  • Track record of mentoring junior engineers and improving the team's overall capabilities.
  • Comfort operating in a product-led environment and understanding the 'why' behind features.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with payments, billing, invoicing, or accounting systems (e.g., payment processors, reconciliation, ledgers, tax).
  • Production experience with Go concurrency (goroutines, channels, worker pools).
  • Experience in B2B SaaS, field service, or operational software.
  • Scheduling, routing, or mapping/geospatial experience.
  • Familiarity with Ionic or mobile development.
  • AWS experience (Lambda, RDS, S3, etc.).
  • Experience with agentic AI workflows or building LLM-powered tooling.
  • Experience with Storybook or similar component workshop.

Responsibilities

  • Architect features and systems end-to-end, owning implementation quality across the pod.
  • Lead the migration of payment processing to Go worker routines, including designing the concurrency model, failure/retry semantics, and cutover plan.
  • Drive the invoicing SDK effort by decomposing the existing invoicing experience into well-documented, independently testable components in Storybook, and defining the API surface for other teams.
  • Define and champion the testing strategy for the team, including what to test, how to test it, and how to maintain the suite over time, ensuring correctness for financial transactions.
  • Identify and address technical debt proactively by proposing tradeoffs, gaining alignment, and executing solutions.
  • Mentor SE1s and SE2s through code review, pairing, and direct feedback, raising the team's technical bar without becoming a bottleneck.
  • Participate in customer discovery with Product to ensure technical decisions address real problems.
  • Lead AI-assisted development practices on the team, utilizing tools like Claude and agentic workflows to increase throughput and assist teammates.
