About The Position

TextUs is on a mission to revolutionize business communication by enabling seamless and impactful engagement between workers and consumers. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team. This role involves owning a feature area end-to-end, from spec authoring through verified production rollout. You will translate product research and vision into detailed specifications, define acceptance criteria, and manage the codegen loop using AI-assisted development tools. The position requires a strong focus on production health, including telemetry, alerts, and on-call response. You will also mentor junior engineers and contribute to raising the overall quality of specifications within the team. Our engineering culture emphasizes small teams, real ownership, AI-native workflows, and outcomes over output, with a strong emphasis on judgment and the ability to anticipate system failures.

Requirements

5+ years building production software in a team that ships fast and owns its own quality
Comfort with the customer side of the product, not just the engineering side. Ability to sit in a customer call, translate what you hear into a spec, and defend the trade-offs made
Strong fluency with Claude Code or equivalent agentic dev tooling. AI-assisted development is the default workflow
Strong written communication skills; ability to write specs that another engineer or an LLM can build from
Track record of shipping in a Rails or comparable full-stack environment, with depth in at least one adjacent surface (modern frontend, mobile, integrations, data)
History of independent ownership: features taken from problem to production with light oversight

Nice To Haves

Experience with TypeScript, React, React Native, Chrome extension surfaces, or embedded web app contexts

Responsibilities

Own a feature area end-to-end, from spec authoring through verified production rollout
Translate product research and 1-3 year vision into specs the engineering org can build against
Write specs that explicitly address tenancy, auth, rate limits, cost, observability, failure modes, and rollback
Define acceptance criteria for every feature in your area, written before code is generated
Develop UAT scenarios and test artifacts that verify the system does what the customer expects
Manage the codegen loop: scoping prompts, knowing when to stop and rewrite the spec rather than chase convergence, reviewing AI output against intent
Ensure production health for what ships: telemetry, alerts, on-call response, follow-through on whatever broke
Pair on spec authorship with less experienced engineers, raising the floor on what a "good spec" looks like across the team
Provide overall mentorship of junior and mid-level engineers
