Senior Software Engineer, VMS

Anduril•Quincy, MA
•$191,000 - $253,000

About The Position

Anduril Industries’ Maritime Division develops software and hardware for autonomous maritime systems. The division’s portfolio includes Dive-XL, Dive-LD, Copperhead, Seabed Sentry, and other systems, supporting autonomous missions throughout the maritime domain. Senior Software Engineers independently drive delivery of embedded and/or safety-critical software integrated into Anduril products. They own outcomes at the major subsystem or system level and provide technical leadership throughout the architecture, design, delivery, support, and evolution of autonomous platforms across their product life cycles. The work includes vehicle management systems and areas such as device management, drivers, firmware, power management, networking, contingency management, and recovery. This role involves working across multidisciplinary engineering teams, supporting vehicle manufacturing and deployment, mentoring engineers, and traveling to work alongside end users and/or other teams up to 20% of the time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Engineering, a relevant field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency writing C.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Familiarity with communications buses and protocols such as CAN, CANFD, UART/RS232/RS422/RS485, SPI, QSPI, I2C, Ethernet, ARINC-825, ARINC-429, and MIL-STD-1553.
  • Systems programming skills, including algorithms, data structures, concurrency, and optimization.
  • Ability to act as technical owner for a software component, including stakeholder engagement, requirements definition, roadmap management, team coordination, design, implementation, sustainment, and evolution.
  • Ability to learn and grow individually, mentor junior team members, and contribute to team cohesion and capacity.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

  • Experience developing high-assurance, safety-critical software applications.
  • Experience developing interfaces to sensors and actuators.
  • Experience troubleshooting and analyzing remotely deployed software systems.
  • Experience working with and testing electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with DO-178, IEC 61508, or similar certifications.
  • Familiarity with navigation and communications systems.
  • Experience across the product delivery lifecycle, including manufacturing, system acceptance, deployment, and sustainment.
  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering concepts.
  • Interest in growing into roles such as Staff Software Engineer and/or Software Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement trusted, safety-critical Vehicle Management Systems that balance constraints, restrictions, and requirements across multiple stakeholders.
  • Design and implement scalable vehicle subsystems, including sensor processing, state estimation, contingency management, actuation, payload interfaces, and mission-system interfaces.
  • Contribute to existing software components across Anduril, with the goal of developing reusable components for multiple product lines.
