Collins Aerospace is on the lookout for a talented Senior Software Engineer to join our Sterling, VA team within the Simulation and Training Solutions (STS) business area. STS develops and builds highly realistic simulators and training systems for military and commercial customers. We utilize cutting-edge technology to deliver highly specialized training for some of the most demanding jobs in aviation. Devices range in complexity from desktop training all the way up to high-fidelity weapon systems and full flight training systems, including full visual motion and simulator interoperability. In this role, you will become a technical focal for the design, implementation, and testing of complex multi-platform training device software and their associated user interfaces. This position requires a highly motivated self-starter who can learn quickly and can tackle complex problems and lead limited development activities. Candidates with agile development experience and the desire to grow into agile leadership roles are strongly encouraged to apply! This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. Most aspects of the job are done in a classified lab environment and require a daily onsite presence.
Requirements
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret Security Clearance or higher is required prior to start date.
- Previous experience working with C++ and multi-threaded C# software applications.
- Experience interfacing with databases.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience with Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) highly desired.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Understanding of flight dynamics, aircraft systems, and avionics.
- Familiarity with Linux and Windows development environments
- Candidate exhibits leader-like qualities and has a willingness to share their knowledge and build up their peers
- Experience using Visual Studio and VS Code
- Familiarity with DevSecOps and Agile development methodologies
- Usage of source code control tools (GITLab, SVN, etc.)
- Usage of ALM tools (JIRA, Confluence, Crucible, Bamboo)
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, integrate, and test software on cross-functional agile teams to deliver solutions within budget, scope, and schedule constraints
- Perform bidding and proposal activities to support the acquisition of new business
- Make and influence decisions which impact cost, schedule, and technical performance at a team level
- Develop high-quality software, which is verifiable, maintainable, and readable
- Perform multi-threaded software debugging and software integration
- Support testing events, including simulation readiness reviews, dry runs, and customer demonstrations.
- Contribute to software and systems engineering requirements capture and analysis
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including software design, test plans, and user guides.
- Travel to domestic and international customer sites to support training events and product installations
