Senior Software Engineer, Platform
About The Position

MedBridge partners with some of the country’s largest healthcare providers to build technology solutions that help patients recover faster while reducing the overall cost of care. As our Development team continues to grow, we are looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Platform Engineering to help strengthen and modernize the Medbridge Platform. The Medbridge Platform includes the core systems, infrastructure, tools, and engineering workflows that enable product teams to build, test, deploy, monitor, and operate software safely, reliably, and efficiently. This includes build and deployment systems, databases, testing infrastructure, monitoring and observability systems, developer tooling, and core application platforms.This is a high-impact role for a strong backend/platform engineer who enjoys improving developer experience, reducing friction for engineering teams, strengthening platform reliability, and helping Medbridge deliver higher-quality software more safely and consistently. Experience with PHP and mature server-side frameworks is especially valuable for candidates who are comfortable improving established production systems thoughtfully, safely, and incrementally.
Requirements
- Strong software engineering experience building and maintaining production systems, including backend, platform, infrastructure, developer tooling, or shared engineering systems.
- Experience improving CI/CD pipelines, build systems, testing infrastructure, observability, and overall developer experience.
- Strong understanding of relational databases (MySQL or similar), including working within large, mature, or complex codebases.
- Proven ability to safely improve and modernize existing systems without unnecessary rewrites, while writing maintainable and testable code.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and technical planning skills with the ability to break down complex work into clear, executable steps.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and ownership mindset with the ability to operate through ambiguity and improve systems relied on across teams.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with PHP, modernizing mature PHP applications, MVC-style frameworks, and/or Go.
- Experience with cloud-hosted systems (especially AWS), CI/CD tools, deployment automation, and platform/infrastructure engineering practices.
- Experience improving test reliability, automated verification workflows, monitoring, alerting, observability, and incident response.
- Experience with database upgrades, performance tuning, and operational database management practices.
- Background in platform engineering, SRE, DevOps, developer experience, or technical leadership/mentorship roles.
- Experience working in healthcare technology, SaaS, or other regulated environments, including familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and validating AI-generated code safely.
Responsibilities
- Improve the Medbridge Platform that product engineering teams use to build, test, deploy, and operate software.
- Work on CI/CD pipelines, build systems, deployment workflows, and release automation.
- Improve database reliability, performance, upgrade readiness, and operational practices.
- Help strengthen our testing platform so teams can validate changes more quickly and confidently.
- Improve monitoring, alerting, observability, and production readiness.
- Reduce developer friction by improving local development, tooling, documentation, and shared engineering workflows.
- Work with the Medbridge PHP monolith as part of the broader platform, including modernization, maintainability, reliability, and testing improvements.
- Partner with product engineering teams to understand pain points and turn them into platform improvements.
- Lead or contribute to cross-team technical initiatives.
- Break down complex technical problems into clear plans and incremental delivery steps.
- Create reusable patterns, documentation, and standards that help teams move faster.
- Mentor engineers and help raise the technical bar across the organization.
- Balance modernization, reliability, developer experience, and product delivery needs.
