About The Position

Nuro is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Networking & Real-Time Systems to ensure the continuous operation of remote vehicle control. This role involves tackling complex networking challenges, including aggregating bandwidth from multiple cellular carriers and developing custom Forward Error Correction (FEC) algorithms to enhance performance beyond standard protocols. The engineer will architect a network bonding framework for zero-drop connectivity, build simulations to test the network stack under various conditions, and optimize congestion control for low-latency video streaming. Collaboration with Hardware and Embedded teams to optimize the network stack on the vehicle gateway is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

Deep understanding of the Linux networking stack, socket programming, and data flow from the physical layer to the application.
Expertise in writing performant, thread-safe C++ code and understanding of real-time systems.
Thorough understanding of TCP/UDP, including their limitations in high-mobility environments, and knowledge of implementing FEC or ARQ to compensate.
5+ years of industry experience, or a PhD with a focus on Networking/Distributed Systems and 3+ years of industry experience.

Video streaming framework experience, e.g., WebRTC
Understanding of video codecs such as VP8, VP9, H264/265 etc.

Responsibilities

Architect a network bonding framework to aggregate bandwidth across multiple cellular providers (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile) to ensure zero-drop connectivity.
Build sophisticated ns-3-like simulations to "stress test" our stack against edge cases like tunnel entries, rural dead zones, and network congestion.
Develop and implement custom congestion control algorithms specifically tuned for high-bitrate, low-latency video streaming.
Partner with Hardware and Embedded teams to optimize the network stack directly on our vehicle gateway.
