About The Position
Santé is the #1 operating system for local retailers, offering a comprehensive platform that manages point of sale, integrated payments, eCommerce, inventory management, delivery-app integrations, marketing, bookkeeping, and AI Agents. The company aims to empower local store owners to compete with larger retailers by providing advanced technology. Santé emphasizes a fast-paced environment with daily feature releases and integrates AI-assisted engineering into its workflow, enabling engineers to significantly increase their output. The Money Movement team at Santé is responsible for all financial operations post-sale, including Payroll, Banking, and Lending. This involves maintaining the accounting backbone for merchants, such as QuickBooks sync for invoices and bills, and managing ledgers for loyalty programs, gift cards, and deposits. The team's future focus includes developing a payroll system for merchants with hourly staff and integrating banking services directly into the OS to facilitate faster access to card processing revenues.
Requirements
- 5+ years building production backend systems, ideally in TypeScript/Node.
- Practical fluency with transactional guarantees: idempotency, atomicity, retry semantics, and handling duplicate webhooks.
- Real depth in PostgreSQL: schema design, transactions under concurrency, and performant queries for growing ledgers.
- An instinct for the unglamorous parts of money: reconciliation, rounding, and precise tax rate handling.
- A bias for root cause analysis over patching, with a track record of turning incidents into eliminated bug classes.
- Comfort operating with high ownership in a small team where decisions set standards.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with payroll, banking, ledger, or other financial systems where an auditor has reviewed the data model.
- Experience with accounting integrations (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero), payment processors, or ACH rails.
- Familiarity with the tech stack: Next.js, tRPC, Prisma, Vercel, ElastiCache, RDS/RDS Proxy.
- Experience directing AI coding agents (Devin, Claude Code, Cursor) and building scalable guardrails.
- Retail or POS domain experience, especially multi-location operations or cash reconciliation.
- History of establishing technical standards or architectural principles adopted across teams.
Responsibilities
- Build Santé's payroll product from the ground up, including earnings computation from shift data, tax withholding, payment execution, and filings integrations.
- Develop Santé’s bill pay product to enable one-click handling of accounts payable.
- Embed bank accounts directly into the OS to provide customers with immediate access to their card processing revenues.
- Own and harden accounting integrations, such as QuickBooks, ensuring sync accuracy.
- Design and maintain ledgers for loyalty, gift cards, and deposits, ensuring correctness, idempotency, and auditability under concurrent writes.
- Establish financial-correctness patterns (e.g., double-entry ledgers, idempotency keys, reconciliation jobs, timezone cutoffs) for adoption by other engineering teams.
- Utilize AI agents to direct, review, and productionize code, implementing necessary guardrails for money-touching code.
