About The Position

VSCO is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure to join their small infra team. This role will focus on owning the platform that VSCO product and data teams ship on, with a strong emphasis on AWS, EKS, and GitOps. The engineer will work closely with other teams such as search, Workspace, and data to ensure their systems are properly integrated into the platform. This is a hands-on senior position involving the design of Terraform modules, managing production traffic to EKS, securing traffic with Cloudflare, optimizing AWS infrastructure, and improving the on-call rotation. The ideal candidate has a passion for production ownership, can manage cutovers effectively, and can guide other teams on infrastructure best practices.

Requirements

5+ years in infrastructure, platform, or site reliability engineering, including hands-on ownership of production systems.
Strong production experience with Kubernetes/EKS, Linux, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).
Production experience with AWS, including EKS, IAM/IRSA, networking (VPC, NAT, DNS), and at least one of RDS/MySQL, Elasticache/Valkey, or OpenSearch.
Experience with GitOps and CI/CD: Flux and/or Helm, plus GitHub Actions (self-hosted runners a plus).
Familiarity with languages supported by CI builds (Go, Python, PHP, Node, Java, Ruby, and similar) to support pipelines, images, and runners.
Experience leading technical architecture discussions, explaining tradeoffs, and driving decisions within a small team.
Experience troubleshooting complex production issues, including network and DNS, and implementing durable fixes.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to teach others how to consume the platform and write clear cutover plans.

Nice To Haves

Cloudflare DNS, CDN, and zone migration experience.
Experience with OpenSearch, Valkey/Redis, MySQL, Mongo, Kafka.
Experience with Datadog, Groundcover, Honeycomb (monitors, dashboards, OTEL).
Experience with GitHub Actions Runner Controller, preview environments, or similar CI solutions.
Experience with Flux, Helm, Kustomize, and a strong opinion on repo ownership for infrastructure components.
Using AI tools like Cursor to enhance productivity.
Experience with high-scale consumer or creator products.
A connection to photography, visual storytelling, or creative communities.
BS in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and operate the AWS and EKS platform using Terraform, Helm/Kustomize, and Flux GitOps across infra, shared-infra, and app-owned repos.
Own production cutovers end to end, including ingress, DNS, workers and crons, telemetry monitors and dashboards, and a rollback plan.
Partner with product and data teams on the right home for new infra, including namespaces, secrets, preview environments.
Build and maintain CI/CD on GitHub Actions, including self-hosted runners, image builds, and deploy pipelines.
Support build and test pipelines, container images, and runners for various language ecosystems (Go, Python, PHP, Node, Java, Ruby, and similar).
Run core data stores and caches as platform services: MySQL, Mongo, Valkey/Redis, OpenSearch.
Manage Cloudflare and CloudFront for DNS and zone moves, CDN behavior, WAF, and custom domains.
Implement observability and autoscaling with monitors, dashboards, and external-metrics HPA, with a focus on system improvement.
Participate in the infra on-call rotation, debugging Linux, Kubernetes, and network issues, and documenting fixes.
Review infra PRs and design docs, guiding other engineers on technical tradeoffs.
