About The Position

The Center for Translational Data Science (CTDS) at the University of Chicago is a research center focused on developing the discipline of translational data science for impactful problems in biology, medicine, healthcare, and the environment. CTDS aims to provide researchers with access to data and tools for data-driven discoveries. They architect ecosystems of large-scale commons of research data, computing resources, applications, tools, and services for the broader research community. This role is for a Senior Software Engineer in Test in Chicago, IL, responsible for priority technical tasks, timely delivery with quality, participation in complex activities including design and implementation, and providing support and maintenance for existing applications. The position also involves technical mentorship to interns and onboarding staff, technical leadership in initiatives, active participation in the hiring process with feedback, and elaborating on technical solutions. The role investigates, analyzes, and resolves day-to-day technical problems using standard procedures and works with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements. Developers receive a moderate level of guidance to design applications meeting University and business requirements, perform code testing, and evaluate design alternatives. The technical environment includes Python, Golang/Javascript, C/C++/Java/C#, design and evaluation of tests for web apps, APIs, and backend, unit & automated regression testing, test case development, Pytest, UX/UI testing & browser test automation with Selenium, performance & load testing with LoadRunner, Unix/Linux programming, version control, JIRA, Jenkins, Cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Openstack), CI/CD, and Agile SDLC.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or related field plus 2 years of experience in software testing required.
2 years with each: software developer or engineer in test
2 years with Python programming
2 years with design and evaluate tests for web apps, APIs, and backend
2 years with unit & automated regression testing
2 years with test case development
2 years with Pytest
2 years with UX/UI testing & browser test automation with Selenium
2 years with performance & load testing with LoadRunner
2 years with Unix/Linux programming
2 years with version control experience
