About The Position

Verisk is seeking a Senior Software Engineer II to provide technical leadership within a collaborative XactRestore product team. The team brings together product management, UX, engineering, and QA to understand customer problems, discover effective solutions, and deliver measurable results. The role leads substantial engineering work, guides technical decisions, strengthens development practices, and shares accountability for product outcomes. It also collaborates with engineering leaders across the Restore division to improve technical direction and software development practices. The engineer will help build reliable capabilities for customers’ operational needs, including enterprise organizations adopting XactRestore across teams. The role involves contributing from product discovery through implementation, release, and ongoing improvement; making hands-on contributions to production code; leading technical design and execution; improving quality and delivery practices; and supporting production reliability through an on-call rotation. The engineer will also guide responsible use of AI-assisted and agentic development workflows, use evidence to evaluate software and customer outcomes, contribute to technical initiatives across Restore, and mentor other engineers. Strong experience building and operating production applications across the stack is required. Preferred technologies include Angular, .NET, GraphQL, React Native, Expo, AWS, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL. Candidates with experience in comparable technologies are welcome and are expected to develop working proficiency in the technologies needed across web, backend, and mobile applications.

Requirements

  • Strong experience building and operating production applications across the stack.
  • A record of leading complex, hands-on engineering work within collaborative product teams, from discovery through delivery and operation.
  • Strong technical judgment and problem-solving skills, including evaluating design options, explaining tradeoffs, and managing technical risks.
  • Experience improving engineering practices and helping other engineers apply them effectively.
  • Practical judgment using AI-assisted development tools, verifying their work, and recognizing when human intervention is required.
  • Experience using data to assess technical decisions and improvements, or demonstrated analytical judgment and commitment to developing these practices.
  • Clear communication, effective collaboration, and the ability to work independently within agreed priorities.
  • Accountability for personal contributions and team outcomes, including surfacing risks, learning from failures, and improving approaches.

  • Work with developers and QA engineers on testing, code review, and release validation; improve CI/CD and automation practices using delivery and production-operation lessons.
  • Apply and improve AI-assisted and agentic development practices, ensuring appropriate verification and clear boundaries for autonomous work, human guidance, permissions, and risk limits.
  • Collaborate with the product team and engineering leaders to select measures, establish baselines, track changes in software quality, reliability, delivery, and customer outcomes, and use findings to guide decisions.
  • Collaborate with Restore engineering leaders on technical direction, shared standards, incident learnings, build-versus-buy decisions, and technical-debt proposals; lead agreed initiatives and coordinate adoption across affected teams.
