Senior Software Engineer II

Verisk Analytics•Lehi, UT

About The Position

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer II to provide technical leadership within a collaborative XactRestore product team. The team combines product management, UX, engineering, and QA to understand customer problems, discover effective solutions, and deliver measurable results. The role leads substantial engineering work, guides technical decisions, strengthens development practices, and shares accountability for product outcomes. It also collaborates with engineering leaders across the Restore division to improve technical direction and software development. The position helps build reliable capabilities for customers’ operational needs, including the complexity of enterprise organizations adopting XactRestore across their teams. The engineer contributes throughout product discovery, implementation, release, and ongoing improvement; leads technical design and hands-on development; and drives technical execution by breaking complex work into increments, coordinating dependencies, and managing risks. The role strengthens testing, code review, release validation, CI/CD, and automation; guides responsible AI-assisted and agentic development; and uses evidence to assess software quality, reliability, delivery, and customer outcomes. It also contributes to shared technical direction, standards, incident learnings, build-versus-buy decisions, technical debt prioritization, and cross-team engineering initiatives. The role participates in the team’s on-call rotation and helps investigate, mitigate, and resolve incidents, translating operational lessons into improvements. It also supports other engineers through thoughtful reviews, mentoring, and technical guidance. Strong experience building and operating production applications across the stack is required. Experience with Angular, .NET, GraphQL, React Native, Expo, AWS, MongoDB, or PostgreSQL is preferred, and comparable technology experience is welcome. The engineer is expected to develop working proficiency in the technologies needed to contribute across web, backend, and mobile applications.

Requirements

  • A four-year bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of related experience.
  • A record of leading complex, hands-on engineering work within collaborative product teams, from discovery through delivery and operation.
  • Strong experience building and operating production applications across the stack.
  • Strong technical judgment and problem-solving skills, including evaluating design options, explaining tradeoffs, and managing technical risks.
  • Experience improving engineering practices and helping other engineers apply them effectively.
  • Practical judgment in using AI-assisted development tools, verifying their work, and recognizing when human intervention is required.
  • Experience using data to assess technical decisions and improvements, or demonstrated analytical judgment and a commitment to developing these practices further.
  • Clear communication, effective collaboration, and the ability to work independently within agreed priorities.
  • Accountability for personal contributions and team outcomes, with a willingness to surface risks, learn from failures, and improve the approach.
  • Willingness to develop working proficiency in the technologies needed to contribute across web, backend, and mobile applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Angular.
  • Experience with .NET and GraphQL.
  • Experience with React Native and Expo.
  • Experience with AWS.
  • Experience with MongoDB and PostgreSQL.
  • Strong experience with comparable technologies and a commitment to learning the company’s stack.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to product discovery and delivery with product management, UX, and engineering colleagues by understanding customer problems, exploring solutions, assessing technical feasibility, and helping deliver intended outcomes.
  • Lead technical design and hands-on development by writing, reviewing, and troubleshooting production code and guiding sound design decisions.
  • Apply architectural patterns and development principles, make tradeoffs explicit, and address maintainability, reliability, security, and operational needs.
  • Drive technical execution by breaking complex work into manageable increments, coordinating dependencies, identifying and addressing technical risks, and helping sequence engineering work within agreed priorities.
  • Strengthen engineering practices and quality by working with developers and QA engineers on testing, code review, and release validation.
  • Improve CI/CD and automation practices using lessons from delivery and production operations.
  • Guide responsible use of AI-assisted and agentic development workflows, including verification and clear boundaries for autonomous work, human guidance, and actions beyond authorized permissions or risk limits.
  • Work with the product team and engineering leaders to select meaningful measures, establish baselines, and track changes in software quality, reliability, delivery, and customer outcomes.
  • Use evidence to guide decisions and assess whether changes achieve their intended benefits.
  • Collaborate with engineering leaders on technical direction, shared standards, incident learnings, and build-versus-buy decisions.
  • Help evaluate technical debt proposals, determine which improvements to pursue, prioritize implementation, and lead agreed initiatives across affected teams.
  • Participate in the team’s on-call rotation and contribute to incident investigation, mitigation, and resolution.
  • Turn operational lessons into improvements to software and development processes.
  • Provide thoughtful code reviews, mentoring, and technical guidance to improve other engineers’ judgment, independence, and effectiveness.
