About The Position

Life360 is seeking an AI-Native Senior Software Engineer II to join the Verticals team. This role is central to building products where AI is integral to the design, development, and shipping process. The initial focus will be on the 'Aging in Place' initiative, helping aging parents maintain independence while providing peace of mind to their families. The role may also extend to supporting other emerging verticals like 'Things' (Tile trackers) and 'Pets'. The engineer will be responsible for designing and building features, evolving AI-Native engineering workflows, and taking full ownership of their work from development through production and member impact. Full-stack experience is strongly preferred, with comfort in backend services (Spring Boot microservices, Java, Kafka, Kafka Streams on AWS) and native mobile development (iOS/Swift, Android/Kotlin). Success in the first year includes shipping end-to-end features for the 'Aging in Place' segment and establishing at least one AI-native workflow for the broader team.

Requirements

5+ years of experience building and operating high-quality, consumer-scale services.
1+ years of hands-on experience prompting, evaluating, and building with LLMs.
Full-stack proficiency spanning backend services and mobile client development (iOS and/or Android), with the versatility to work across the whole stack as needed.
Deep experience with agentic workflows, prompt engineering, context window management, and MCP/function calling.
A track record of using AI tooling to multiply your own output — not just as autocomplete, but as a genuine development partner.
A strong sense of ownership — you don't wait to be told what to fix, and you follow through past "it works on my machine" to "it works for the member, in production, at scale."
Strong communication and collaboration skills — you work well with product, design, and platform engineers.
A genuine excitement for defining what it means to be AI-Native — you're not waiting for the playbook, you want to write it.
Empathy for the humans behind the product — an aging parent trying to stay independent, or a family member trying to help from afar.
Bachelor's Degree in a Technical field, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

Ship end-to-end across the stack — from backend services and APIs through to the iOS and Android surfaces members actually use — moving fluidly between layers as the feature demands.
Work with AI (Claude Code) as a first-class collaborator — your primary workflow involves orchestrating agents to create specs, generate results, and perform reviews.
Help define and codify AI-Native engineering practices for the Verticals team, establishing playbooks the broader org can adopt.
Build across the full stack (backend & Native mobile)— shipping polished, performant, and reliable experiences to tens of millions of users.
Collaborate closely with product managers and designers to turn complex user problems into elegant, scalable engineering solutions.
Contribute to architectural decisions, code reviews, and a culture of craft and continuous improvement.
Participate in on-call rotation and incident response.
Use agentic workflows to dramatically increase the delivery of strong outcomes — moving faster without sacrificing quality.
Mentor team members and contribute to team processes, technical standards, and help evolve the team's AI-native engineering practices.
Support performance, reliability, and accessibility across the features you own.
Adapt patterns and services built for Aging in Place to future verticals (Things, Pets) as team scope expands.
