Senior Software Engineer, HUB

WeekendSan Francisco, CA
$165,000 - $228,000Hybrid

About The Position

Weekend is the leading developer of voice AI games for smart TVs. Our games attract millions of users every month, with family favorites like Jeopardy!, Song Quiz, CoComelon: Sing and Play with JJ, and Wheel of Fortune. We believe voice interfaces will become the main way people access entertainment in their living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and cars. We're building a bundled subscription product similar to Netflix or Spotify for the emerging category of "AI-powered games." Weekend was founded by Max Child and James Wilsterman in 2024. The founders went through Y Combinator in 2018 and landed a spot on the 2022 YC Top Companies List. We’re a quickly-growing team headquartered in Union Square, San Francisco. The Hub team owns Weekend's bundled gaming experience, the first thing users see across all TV platforms. We build and maintain the features that shape how players discover, adopt, and stick with our games, from the core product experience to growth experiments that move business metrics. This is a front-end-leaning full-stack role. You'll spend most of your time building user-facing features in TypeScript and React, working closely with Product and Design to shape what gets built and how. You'll also own backend work where it connects to what users experience, but the center of gravity here is the interface, not the infrastructure. It's a high-impact position for engineers who care about how users feel, not just how systems scale, and who thrive at the intersection of engineering, product, and data. This job opportunity offers a hybrid work arrangement, and we are specifically seeking candidates who are comfortable with on-site attendance in our Bay Area office 3 times per week and are either currently residing in or near the Bay Area or willing to relocate for on-site work.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience, with meaningful time spent on user-facing products.
  • Strong TypeScript and React skills and have shipped production-grade frontend work you're proud of.
  • Worked directly with Product and Design partners, not just received specs to implement.
  • Owned features end-to-end, from scoping and tradeoffs through launch and iteration.
  • Make data-informed decisions and know how to instrument and measure what you ship.
  • Comfortable with backend systems where they connect to what users experience.
  • Operate well in ambiguous environments and don't need a fully-defined problem to start making progress.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Unity and/or Unreal Engine.
  • Shader and WebGL / ThreeJS development.
  • Familiarity with AWS services such as EC2 and Lambda.
  • React Three Fiber (R3F) usage.
  • Experience on live-ops or games-as-a-service titles.

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with Product to refine requirements, write technical specs, and deliver features from concept to launch.
  • Collaborate with Design to create delightful, intuitive experiences for users across TV, mobile, and web platforms.
  • Own features end-to-end, including the backend services they depend on, with a primary focus on the user-facing layer.
  • Use data to validate what you ship, measure impact, and inform what to build next
  • Proactively identify risks, surface blockers early, and shape engineering decisions with your team.
  • Contribute to code reviews and maintain a high standard of code quality, architecture, and performance.
