This role is within the Platform Engineering team, focusing on improving Megaport's internal developer experience by designing, developing, and maintaining tools and APIs. The Senior Software Engineer will build robust, Go-based backend services and CLI tooling to automate operational workflows, streamline access management, and ensure systems adhere to global engineering standards at scale. Only candidates residing in Australia or New Zealand will be considered.

Requirements

• Proven professional experience as a Backend Engineer using Go.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
• Demonstrated experience with building services on top of Kubernetes.
• Solid knowledge of scalable web service development, including RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in designing and consuming APIs, including managing authentication and authorization protocols.
• Proficiency in database management, with hands-on experience in optimizing database performance, designing schemas, and query optimization.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to deliver high-quality code in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with performance profiling and debugging tools to optimize system performance.
• Experience managing infrastructure on AWS and working with GitHub as a core platform.
• Solid understanding of version control systems (Git) and continuous integration/delivery.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Experience building internal developer-facing tools or CLI applications.
• Passion for 'Platform as a Product'—enjoy identifying bottlenecks in the developer lifecycle and building automated solutions to solve them.

Responsibilities

• Build high-performance Go-based APIs, microservices, and CLI tools that reduce friction, automate manual processes, and enhance productivity for engineering teams.
• Design and implement systems that orchestrate workflows between systems of record, SaaS platforms, and internal infrastructure.
• Design and maintain automated systems for repository and service oversight, ensuring the engineering ecosystem remains consistent, secure, and aligned with organizational standards.
• Create and maintain automated interfaces and abstractions that allow teams to request and manage infrastructure resources securely without Platform team intervention.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, deploy, and maintain reliable, Go-based backend systems hosted on Kubernetes/EKS.
• Take ownership of performance profiling and tuning to ensure platform responsiveness and reliability.
