About The Position

Scribd, Inc. is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Fullstack) to join the Scribd Core team. This role will directly impact the primary reading experience for over 10 million daily readers, shaping how users interact with Scribd's extensive document corpus. The engineer will experiment at the intersection of product and AI, partnering with Product, Design, and AI/ML teams to launch experiments that enhance engagement and comprehension. They will also build new creative experiences from scratch, develop innovative tools enhanced by generative AI for user synthesis of research, and work to improve SEO and AEO for Core Scribd pages. A key aspect of the role involves modernizing the tech stack by leading efforts to decompose the Ruby-on-Rails monolith into a modular Microfrontend architecture using Next.js and a distributed backend.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of full-stack development experience
  • Experience building and shipping production systems across the stack using React and Next.js or Ruby on Rails
  • Familiarity with maintaining services in a cloud environment
  • Experience with monitoring/maintaining service health, and responding to incidents
  • Understanding of performance, accessibility, and SEO
  • Collaborative mindset; thrive in cross-functional environments and enjoy working closely with Design, Product, AI/ML, and Infrastructure
  • Commitment to code quality and maintainability; pride in writing clean, well-documented, and extensible code

Responsibilities

  • Help migrate frontend surfaces from a Ruby-on-Rails monolith to a microfrontend
  • Collaborate with our Data/ML and Content Pipeline teams to build new features and make improvements to our document ingestion infrastructure
  • Create new GraphQL APIs
  • Build new services in Node, Python, Go
  • Collaborate with Design and PM
  • Contribute to a shared design system
  • Make contributions to improving our frontend infrastructure
