Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack

Relativity SpaceLong Beach, CA
$154,000 - $211,000

About The Position

Relativity Space is building rockets to serve today’s needs and tomorrow’s breakthroughs. The Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting the growing demand for launch capacity. Achieving commercial success with Terran R will unlock new opportunities to advance science, exploration, and innovation, pioneering progress that reaches beyond the known. Joining Relativity means becoming part of something where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. You’ll be solving problems that haven’t been solved before, helping develop a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up. Collaboration across teams, shaping decisions, and seeing your work come to life in record time are key aspects of the culture. Creativity and technical rigor go hand in hand, and your voice will help define the stories being written together. This is an early-stage opportunity to leave your mark on the product, the process, and the culture, while Terran R is tangible and gaining momentum. About the Team: Relativity Space pioneered large-scale additive manufacturing with our Terran 1 rocket. Now a distinct business unit, Horizon Manufacturing Technologies is advancing next-generation manufacturing for aerospace and beyond. The team operates at the frontier of manufacturing innovation, where creativity meets capability. Cutting-edge R&D is put into production, industrializing advanced manufacturing capabilities to solve customer problems. You’ll work alongside welders, robotics engineers, data scientists, and systems engineers at the intersection of hardware and software, creating an end-to-end additive manufacturing platform. This includes exploring new materials, unlocking faster print speeds, and designing complex geometries. About the Role: We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with broad technical skills and a hands-on mindset to develop and own the crucial backend software infrastructure that connects robotics software, data platform, machine learning, and digital twin of our Stargate autonomous additive manufacturing platform. This role is ideal for a software engineer who thrives in cross-functional environments, enjoys owning full projects from design to deployment, and is comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast-moving R&D setting. You’ll contribute to the core software infrastructure that connects edge hardware, ML inference systems, real-time process monitoring tools, and visualization platforms. You'll work closely with robotics, data, ML, and infrastructure engineers to develop clean, reliable, and maintainable software that integrates tightly with hardware and real-world processes. As a member of Horizon's Data Platform team, you'll develop user-facing applications, APIs, and Create/Read/Update/Delete services that expose data platform capabilities to end users. You will create backend services that integrate with data architectures and enable data consumption, develop frontend interfaces for data visualization, analytics, and platform management, deploy and maintain software in both edge and cloud environments, collaborate with robotics software engineers to integrate your software with the robotic operating system, and contribute to internal tooling that improves developer productivity and system observability.

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Experience developing and shipping production-quality software with real-world operational constraints
  • Proficient in whatever languages and tools you love most, and willing to learn new ones
  • Ability to independently identify, scope, design, and execute software projects
  • Understanding of databases, pipelines, and platforms, and how to write software that interacts with them
  • Experience designing in collaboration with non-software stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing software for robotics or additive manufacturing applications
  • Familiarity with Robot Operating System (ROS)
  • Prior experience in a small company or startup where you owned software end-to-end
