About The Position

Cloudera is seeking a full-stack software engineer for its Cloudera Data Services team. The team builds the control plane, Kubernetes operators, APIs, and web interfaces that run open-source query engines such as Trino over table formats such as Apache Iceberg. The role involves developing products that handle complex SQL query workloads on public or private clouds, using Go services and Kubernetes operators on the backend and React and TypeScript on the frontend. The engineer will work in a distributed team to build services that provision, configure, scale, and monitor SQL warehouses on Kubernetes. The role owns features from design through testing, rollout, and production support across Kubernetes environments, and includes documenting designs, improving code quality, and delivering effective technical solutions based on customer workloads.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant industry experience designing and developing enterprise software, with a strong understanding of scaling and performance.
  • Clean coding habits, attention to detail, and a focus on quality.
  • Strong hands-on programming ability and data structures and algorithms skills.
  • Strong Go experience.
  • Experience building Kubernetes operators with client-go and controller-runtime or kubebuilder, including CRD design and Helm.
  • Experience building backend services with OpenAPI-defined REST or gRPC APIs and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience building web applications with React and TypeScript.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and operating a query engine such as Trino or similar engines, including configuration, catalogs, and coordinator and worker topology.
  • Experience with automated testing (unit, integration, and end-to-end) and CI/CD.
  • Self-driven approach, strong ownership and craftsmanship, and a high bias for action.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively on cross-functional projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Java experience, especially understanding or extending Trino or a similar engine.
  • Experience with service meshes such as Istio and Kubernetes autoscaling (KEDA).
  • Experience with Kerberos, LDAP or SAML, Apache Ranger, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience with Redux or JavaScript codebases adopting TypeScript, and with Playwright or Jest.
  • Experience with GitOps and OCI registries.

Responsibilities

  • Work on services that provision, configure, scale, and monitor SQL warehouses on Kubernetes as part of a distributed team.
  • Design and build Go backend services, including OpenAPI-defined REST and gRPC APIs, long-running lifecycle workflows, and PostgreSQL-backed state.
  • Build Kubernetes operators that run Trino from custom resources, including controllers, CRD design, layered configuration, and Helm-based deployment.
  • Build React and TypeScript web applications for managing warehouses, browsing catalogs, and monitoring queries and cluster health.
  • Own features end to end, from design through testing, rollout, and production support, as containerized services across Kubernetes flavors such as EKS, AKS, and OpenShift.
  • Write design documentation for key features and capabilities.
  • Improve code quality through tests, automation, and code reviews.
  • Understand customer workloads and provide effective technical solutions.
