About The Position

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward. As a part of this role, you will help scientists science, and build AI products from 0 to 1 that actually launch. As a part of this role, you will be someone who sees themselves as a product engineer, someone who wants to sit close to the user and close the feedback, and build great products through working with people and collaborating. As a part of Google Labs, you will be focused on incubating early-stage efforts in direct support of Google's core products and mission. You will help Google discover and create new, cutting-edge AI products, and to do this, you will focus on small teams that take a product driven approach to creating those “next things”. Labs is a group focused on incubating early-stage efforts in support of Google’s mission to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our team exists to help discover and create new ways to advance our core products through exploration and the application of new technologies. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience with software development in Java or Kotlin.
Experience in launching software, hardware, or digital technology products to market.
Experience diagnosing, debugging, and resolving technical issues in a software or hardware environment.
Experience in developing and maintaining back-end, front-end, or full-stack software applications.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
Experience developing accessible technologies.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with research teams, as well as cross-functional partners (Product Management, User Experience, Technical Program Management (PM, UX, TPM) across and outside of Labs.
Contribute to and drive parts of the overall product and engineering roadmap.
Develop functional product features with full-stack development though back-end only work is fine as well.
Build deep understanding of language and multi-modal technologies and approach to applying them in the product’s context.
Prototype AI solutions for new product features, and support landing them in production.
