About The Position

Marqeta is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Frontend with strong expertise in React Native to provide technical leadership in building our UX Toolkit (Web/Native) at Marqeta. This is a newly formed area of focus, and we need a technical leader with deep experience in building cross-platform mobile and web applications from the ground up. Marqeta is on a mission to change the way money moves and is a leader in embedded finance. The company powers well-known brands and is essential to many Americans' weekly financial activities. Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in web and mobile application development with a focus on React Native.
  • Strong proficiency in React Native for building mobile applications, including experience with React Navigation, Expo, and native module development (Swift/Kotlin/Objective-C/Java).
  • Experience integrating React Native applications with native iOS and Android components, bridging gaps where necessary.
  • Deep understanding of React.js, Redux, Context API, or similar state management frameworks.
  • Experience working with design systems and component-based architecture to ensure UI consistency and scalability.
  • Strong knowledge of mobile performance optimization techniques, including profiling, memory management, and UI rendering optimizations.
  • Experience integrating RESTful APIs and GraphQL into mobile and web applications.
  • Familiarity with mobile authentication techniques, including OAuth, biometric authentication, and secure session management.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines for mobile development, such as Fastlane, Bitrise, or App Center.
  • Proficiency with Git and modern development workflows, including feature branching and pull request reviews.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading mobile development initiatives.
  • Solid problem-solving skills, debugging expertise, and the ability to troubleshoot cross-platform performance issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, and backend engineers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Swift and/or Kotlin for deeper native integrations in React Native apps.
  • Domain experience in Payments or Fintech industries.
  • Familiarity with App Store and Google Play Store deployment processes, including code signing, release management, and A/B testing.
  • Experience using TypeScript to enhance maintainability and scalability in React Native applications.
  • Knowledge of WebAssembly, PWAs, or alternative approaches to cross-platform development.
  • Passion for delivering high-quality, delightful user experiences with a customer-first mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product and design teams to develop innovative cardholder experiences across web and mobile platforms.
  • Lead the development of React Native-based SDKs and applications, ensuring high performance and seamless integration across platforms.
  • Architect and implement reusable React Native components that align with modern design patterns and best practices.
  • Optimize performance for mobile applications, leveraging techniques such as lazy loading, code splitting, and efficient rendering strategies.
  • Work hands-on with React Native, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS to build and maintain scalable front-end solutions.
  • Define and contribute to technical roadmaps, design documents, and system architecture to ensure high-quality UI experiences.
  • Participate in design discussions, advise stakeholders, and establish best practices for mobile and web application development.
  • Advocate for and implement modern engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and performance monitoring.
