Within Microsoft Fabric, the Data Integration team enables organizations to connect, move, and shape data across their entire data estate. Fabric’s unified integration experience simplifies how customers bring data together, ensuring it is trusted, usable, and ready to power analytics, real-time insights, and AI scenarios.
We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help shape the future of data connectivity across Microsoft. This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, data connectivity, and quality, with opportunities to modernize connector technologies, build large-scale validation systems, improve authentication and reliability scenarios, and drive adoption of technologies such as Apache Arrow and ADBC. You'll solve complex technical challenges while helping ensure that millions of Power BI, Fabric, and Excel users can reliably connect to the data that powers their business.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
• Experience developing software in C#, Java, C++, Python, or similar object-oriented programming languages.
• Experience designing and implementing automated testing, validation, or quality engineering solutions for complex software systems.
• Experience with data connectivity technologies such as APIs, databases, drivers, connectors, ODBC, JDBC, ADBC, or similar integration technologies.
• Familiarity with SQL, data platforms, query processing, or data integration technologies.
• Experience investigating and resolving complex reliability, performance, authentication, or end-to-end integration issues.
• Experience working with cloud services and distributed systems, preferably Microsoft Azure.
• Experience with modern engineering practices including source control, CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and automated testing.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a passion for improving software quality, reliability, and customer experience.
• Experience working across multiple teams and driving technical initiatives through collaboration and influence.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement automated validation frameworks that ensure the reliability and quality of Power Query connectivity experiences across hundreds of data sources.
• Drive modernization and migration efforts for data connectivity technologies, including validation, compatibility testing, and production readiness for new connector platforms.
• Investigate and resolve complex issues involving authentication, connectivity, performance, and end-to-end data access scenarios across cloud and on-premises environments.
• Partner with connector, SDK, and engineering systems teams to build scalable quality signals, diagnostics, and test coverage that prevent regressions before they reach customers.
• Improve test automation, reliability, and infrastructure to increase engineering confidence and accelerate the delivery of new features and connectors.
• Analyze telemetry, test results, and customer-reported issues to identify systemic reliability improvements and drive long-term quality investments.
• Contribute to technical leadership through design reviews, mentoring, and establishing engineering best practices for validation, testing, and operational excellence.
