The Role As a Senior Full Stack Engineer for Customer Interfaces in San Francisco, you will lead the evolution of Adyen’s experience platform, building the foundational frameworks, AI-integrated guardrails, and component libraries that empower global teams to ship secure, conversational financial experiences. We are looking for a product-minded engineer who can build end-to-end streaming, multi-modal user interfaces while architecting backend agentic workflows (specifically Tool-use, Chains, and Policy Layers). In this role, AI is not a standalone job title or a hypothetical sandbox; it is an integrated engineering capability used to transform natural language inputs into authenticated, secure financial operations.

Requirements

Full-Stack Technical Depth: Deeply proficient in Java for high-concurrency backend services, with architectural competence to integrate and support Agentic workflows (Python). Experienced with Vue/Preact for complex, stateful web applications.
Applied AI Systems & Safety: Hands-on experience (or strong architectural competence) with production-grade Agentic AI integrations, including policy layers, evaluation frameworks, RAG architectures, and deterministic execution boundaries.
Security-First Mindset: A "security-by-design" approach to handling sensitive financial data, user authorization, and zero-trust access in web environments.
High Ownership & Influence: Comfortable driving cross-team technical alignment, mentoring engineers, conducting rigorous code reviews, and collaborating with global engineering hubs.
7+ years of professional software engineering experience in a fast-paced technology environment.
Currently operating as a Senior Software Engineer (or equivalent level) with a track record of taking full ownership of complex, distributed web applications.

Responsibilities

Drive Intelligent Customer Interfaces: Lead the next generation of UIs at Adyen, building Dynamic/Agentic UI components in Vue/Preact that adapt in real time beyond static dashboards.
Architect backend integration: Design performant Java services that orchestrate data pipelines and integrate with Agentic workflows to handle tool-use, chain execution, and state synchronization.
Raise the Bar: Set engineering standards for the team and company. Provide mentorship through problem decomposition, research methodology, and code review. Champion reproducibility, documentation, and rigorous evaluation practices across the AI organization.
Engineer Zero-Trust AI Guardrails: Architect the security and policy enforcement layers for Agentic workflows, maintaining strict financial data privacy and reducing hallucinated operations from touching critical backend logic.
Partner on Product Strategy: Collaborate directly with Product Management to identify high-impact merchant workflows, translating ambiguous merchant problems into simple, high-velocity technical solutions.
Maintain Operational Rigor: Own your code in production. Monitor live performance, minimize end-to-end streaming latency, champion security compliance, and lead root-cause analysis for live incidents.
Engineering AI for Production: Move beyond the "sandbox". Build robust evaluation frameworks, latency-optimized streaming, and observability layers that ensure AI-driven features are reliable, secure, and ready for critical financial operations.
Distributed Excellence: Proven track record of collaborating across global engineering hubs, effectively aligning remote teams on technical decisions, and driving documentation-first communication.
