Senior Software Engineer - Customer Developer Observability

The Developer Observability team, a part of the Customer Experience Solution, creates and maintains products that equip customers with insights into their integration health and provide guidance for improvement. This is becoming more and more important, especially with the use of LLM tooling across the industry. The team owns several services, including API & Webhook Event Logs, Developer Dashboard, and a new project called Integration Quality. The team finds itself in an interesting position: Managing a large data tech stack for API Logs & Webhook Event Logs in PostgreSQL, Kafka, Elasticsearch (hundreds of terabytes of logs) A team that strongly collaborates between Frontend and Backend to provide these insights in the Customer Area and (in the future) other tooling so engineers can get localized insights For the new Integration Quality project there will also be a close collaboration with data engineering, docs tooling and other product teams. As a Senior Java Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing more substantial technical changes and mentoring Software Engineers I and II. You will also work closely with the product team to understand the scope of changes for our customers and tackle security and compliance challenges.
Requirements
- Currently working as a Senior Software Engineer or at a similar level
- Demonstrated knowledge of building Java web services
- Demonstrated knowledge of designing performant relational database models (preferably PostgreSQL)
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Comfortable navigating evolving priorities, and adapting quickly to unforeseen challenges
- Enjoy elevating the software creation process, system design, reliability, testing, and general problem-solving of the team and broader organization
- Great communication skills and can articulate complex technical vision and strategy to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Skilled at collaborating with various people, including senior leaders, Product Managers, and other Software Engineers
- Experienced in leading technical projects in a fast-paced environment
- Flexible team player with an eye for detail
- Proactively share what you learn with the larger engineering community
- 8+ years of experience in the software development industry
- Full professional proficiency in English
- Work authorized in the United States without the need for new visa sponsorship
Nice To Haves
- Experience in Kafka and/or Elasticsearch
- Worked in customer developer experience (e.g. tooling, observability) or payment related teams in the past
Responsibilities
- Bring a new perspective on best engineering practices, improvements, and opportunities
- Lead complex technical projects from requirements analysis through architectural design, implementation, testing, and launch into production
- Balance robust design with lean development, by validating concepts with minimal effort and then being able to shift to highly reliable systems
- Champion reliability & operational excellence
- Mentor and guide engineers to improve their technical skills and make informed decisions
- Bring live functionalities that impact many merchants and shoppers within the first few weeks
- Collaborate across teams and time zones to get projects over the finish line
Benefits
- The annual base salary range for this role is $190,000 - $290,000
