About The Position

Eversource is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for their Corporate Services team. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining new and existing systems to adapt to business and technology changes. The engineer will collaborate with IT management, development teams, technical delivery teams, and vendors to ensure successful technology solution delivery. Key responsibilities include driving software change and release management processes, improving the software development lifecycle, and working independently with minimal supervision. The position requires ensuring software deliverables meet quality standards and deadlines. This role is hybrid, requiring at least three days in the office per week, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with flexibility for up to five days if needed. Eversource will not offer immigration-related sponsorship for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years of related experience.
  • Advanced to expert knowledge of work area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
  • May have broad knowledge of project management.
  • Substantial knowledge of ES projects, programs, or systems in order to provide enhancements within job area.
  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement new systems and features.
  • Modify and maintain existing systems for adaptation to business and/or technology changes.
  • Engage directly with IT management, development teams, technical delivery teams, and vendors to ensure the successful design, development, and delivery of technology-based solutions.
  • Drive the software change and release management processes.
  • Assist with the overall maturity of the software development lifecycle.
  • Work independently with little supervision.
  • Ensure that software deliverables comply with quality standards and are completed on time.
  • Manage moderately sized projects or processes.
  • Coach, review, and delegate work to lower-level professionals.
  • Mentor lower-level engineers.
  • Contribute to the development of goals of the discipline and planning efforts (budgets, operational plans, etc.).
  • Make moderate to significant improvements of processes, systems or products to enhance performance of work area.
  • Communicate with parties within and outside of own discipline, potentially including external parties like customers and vendors.
  • Influence parties within and outside of the job function at an operational level regarding policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Contribute to software development processes.
  • Independently scope and implement larger user stories for their project/team.
  • Handle open-ended problems & ambiguity well.
  • Make well-reasoned software design decisions, identifying potential issues, tradeoffs, risks, and the appropriate level of abstraction.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends and tools.
  • Stay current with technology.
  • Navigate and make legacy code maintainable.
  • Elevate testing practices.
  • Contribute to the foundational good of their domain and engineering overall, defining patterns and canonical examples, plus paying down tech debt.
  • Share experience and expertise to help others grow.
  • Lead and coach within their team where possible, being trusted with team decisions.
  • Ensure documentation exists for all critical systems.
  • Engage outside expertise (training, consultants, professional network).
  • Add scripts to simplify developer onboarding.
  • Automate processes.
  • Show inclusiveness by respecting different opinions, acknowledging expertise, and recognizing unconscious biases.
  • Be available to work emergency restoration assignments as required.
