About The Position

Do you want to help build and operate the platform that powers serverless computing at global scale? Azure Functions is at the heart of Azure's serverless platform and enables developers to build scalable, event-driven applications without managing the underlying infrastructure! We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer - CoreAI to join the Azure Functions Platform team. In this role, you will design, build, operate, and maintain core platform components and distributed systems that support the reliable execution of customer workloads across Azure. You will work on systems where reliability, performance, scalability, security, and diagnosability are fundamental design requirements. This is an opportunity to solve deep distributed-systems and platform-engineering problems, improve the operational maturity of a rapidly growing cloud service, and help define how cloud-native and AI-powered applications are built on Azure. Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

2+ years of experience designing, building, operating, or maintaining distributed systems or cloud services.
Experience developing and maintaining platform or infrastructure components for large-scale online services.
Experience with public cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
Experience with containers and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes.
Experience improving service reliability, performance, scalability, diagnosability, and operational efficiency.
Experience troubleshooting complex production issues using logs, metrics, traces, telemetry, and debugging tools.
Experience with modern software engineering practices, including design and code reviews, automated testing, source control, build and release processes, and secure development.
Communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering teams.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, test, and ship platform capabilities and services for Azure Functions.
Build and maintain large-scale distributed systems, with a focus on reliability, availability, scalability, performance, security, and cost efficiency.
Own services through their full lifecycle, including design, development, deployment, monitoring, incident response, troubleshooting, repair work, and continuous improvement.
Use logs, metrics, traces, telemetry, testing, and automation to proactively identify issues and improve production health.
Investigate and resolve complex technical issues in running online services, including problems that span multiple components or dependencies.
Develop and improve platform tooling and automation for safe deployments, regression detection, rollback, and operational readiness.
Partner with engineers and stakeholders across teams to define requirements, make sound technical decisions, and deliver maintainable solutions.
Contribute to architecture and design reviews, code reviews, engineering standards, and technical direction for platform components.
Mentor other engineers and help strengthen engineering practices across the team.
