Senior Software Engineer, Core Experience
About The Position
Instacart is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Core Experience team to design, build, and implement software solutions that optimize and scale the Instacart platform and related technologies. This role involves developing highly scalable software using innovative computer science and software engineering principles, ensuring proper protocols for rapid rollout of upgrades and new features. The engineer will analyze and optimize SQL queries, enable data-driven features that adapt to customer shopping behavior, and lead strategic planning and execution of development projects from inception to deployment and maintenance. The position also requires implementing high-quality solutions for engaging shopping experiences, focusing on both the user interface and underlying systems for web and mobile platforms, as well as executing ongoing testing and analysis of current systems, including performance analysis, diagnosis, troubleshooting, and determining design solutions for programming issues. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field (or foreign equivalent)
- 5 years of experience in the job offered or related
- 5 years of experience working with Java, Ruby, Python, or similar programming languages
- 5 years of experience working with MySQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL, or similar data management systems
- 5 years of experience working with API query technologies, such as GraphQL
- 2 years of experience working with machine learning model development and iteration
- 2 years of experience working with client/server architectures and application architectures
- 2 years of experience working with large codebases on cross-functional teams
Responsibilities
- Developing highly scalable software using innovative computer science and software engineering principles while ensuring proper protocols are in place to rapidly roll out upgrades and new features
- Analyzing and optimizing expensive SQL queries
- Enabling sophisticated, data-driven features that adapt to customer shopping behavior
- Leading strategic planning and execution of development projects, from inception to deployment and maintenance
- Implementing high quality solutions to create engaging and straightforward shopping experiences, focusing on everything from the user interface to the underlying systems supporting web and mobile platforms
- Executing ongoing testing and analysis of current systems, including independent performance analysis, diagnosis, and troubleshooting; determining design solutions to problematic programming
