About The Position

The Senior Controls Software Engineer will support the review, development, simplification, integration, and release of controller software for VIP (Vehicle Interface Platform) and SDV2.0 architectures. The role is part of General Motors’ Embedded Platform System & Infrastructure (EPSI) group, specifically the Low Voltage Infrastructure (LVI) organization, which develops controls and diagnostic software for on-vehicle low voltage power generation, energy storage, power management, and distribution. The engineer will develop and improve embedded controls strategies used across GM vehicles, including EVs and ICE vehicles. The position focuses on complex low voltage features and embedded software in C and C++, with emphasis on code quality and efficiency, best practices, reducing vulnerability exposure, and addressing interference between features. Work includes collaborating across engineering and program teams, verifying designs through testing and data analysis, supporting root-cause analysis, and improving team capability and processes. The role is hybrid, with the selected candidate expected to report to a specific location at least three times a week or at a frequency set by their manager. Relocation benefits are not available.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of engineering experience related to embedded controls, calibration, integration, or software development.
  • Software development skills in C, C++, and/or Python.
  • Understanding of embedded controls development and delivery processes, including SAFe/Agile.
  • Experience with embedded controls test assets such as SIL, HIL, and vehicle testing, and tools such as INCA and MDA.
  • Expert ability to capture and analyze data to verify system and feature performance.
  • Proficiency in control-system theory and its application to embedded systems, including state-space feedback control, adaptive control, and model predictive control or equivalent.
  • Strong partnership and teamwork skills, including the ability to learn from and share knowledge cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment with sometimes incomplete requirements.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills for unusual and difficult problems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects and assignments autonomously and be accountable for results.
  • Demonstrated innovative, customer-centric thinking.
