Headquartered in Silicon Valley, California, Archer is a leader in the next-gen aerospace sector building an end-to-end advanced air mobility platform that delivers air taxis, unmanned aircraft systems (“UAS”), aviation-related physical artificial intelligence (“AI”) solutions, and other technologies to customers worldwide across the commercial aerospace and defense sectors. Archer is best known for Midnight, our electric aircraft. This role isn't on that program. The AI Products Org builds consumer software for the general aviation industry. There's a lot we're not ready to talk about publicly yet, so this posting stays vague on purpose. What we can say: the products are real, they ship, and people use them every day. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll build and maintain systems that servie as a critical link between physical hardware and backend services. You may write software that runs on embedded devices one day and scalable cloud services the next, requiring both breadth across systems and the ability to dive deep when needed.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
Strong proficiency in Python
Experience building or managing applications on AWS
Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to debug complex, cross-disciplinary systems

Nice To Haves

Experience with edge computing or embedded systems (Raspberry Pi, GPIO, Sensors)
Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform
Experience working with SQL and/or NoSQL databases
Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker
Willingness to learn and work with additional languages or frameworks as needed (i.e. Rust)

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain software systems that span edge devices and cloud infrastructure
Develop and support software running on Raspberry Pi and similar embedded environments
Build scalable backend services using Python on AWS
Ensure reliable data flow and system integration between hardware and cloud services
Monitor system performance and troubleshoot production issues across hardware and software boundaries
Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following engineering best practices
Adapt to changing priorities by contributing across software development, infrastructure, and hardware testing as needed
