About The Position

Siteline is a Series A SaaS startup in the construction space, aiming to modernize finance for the construction industry. The company is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Backend/Infrastructure to join their remote team. This role involves working closely with the product team to conceptualize, implement, and ship features, as well as owning the maintenance and evolution of the backend tech stack and infrastructure. The engineer will be instrumental in improving customer experience and scaling the product, and as an early member, will contribute to shaping the company's direction. The position is based in San Francisco, with an in-office collaboration requirement of 4 days a week, emphasizing trust and work-life balance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4-6 years of professional software experience, including meaningful backend experience and exposure to full-stack work.
  • Designed and scaled complex backend systems, worked with internal and external APIs, and shipped to real customers on a regular basis.
  • Familiarity working with Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, React, and Postgres.
  • Good at understanding and breaking down complex problems.
  • Resourceful and comfortable with ambiguity, and can make good decisions and forward progress even when requirements are unclear.
  • Takes pride in building scalable, resilient software that delights users and advances the company’s business objectives.
  • Engages thoughtfully and effectively with others, and is an attentive and empathetic listener.
  • Can adapt communication style to different audiences and confidently break down tricky topics in writing and in person.
  • Eager to learn, comfortable asking questions, and receptive to feedback.

Nice To Haves

  • Worked in a fast-paced startup environment in the past and are excited to do it again.
  • Experience managing infrastructure to support rapid growth and product usage at scale.
  • Experience mentoring fellow team members and are considered a leader among your peers.
  • Approachable and enjoy helping others on the team continually grow.
  • Likes to express yourself creatively through hobbies or interests outside of coding, and feel inspired to think outside the box in and away from your job.

Responsibilities

  • Technical leadership: Employ software engineering best practices to ensure our codebase remains well-tested and bug-free. As an early engineer, you’ll have a prominent voice in engineering decisions and technical direction across the stack.
  • Infrastructure: Guide the future of our tech stack. To support greater usage and a larger customer base, our infrastructure needs to evolve, as does the way we store, query, and process data. You’ll not only be a key decision-maker, but will anticipate technical constraints and proactively find and engineer solutions.
  • Systems design: Independently drive decisions on software architecture, data modeling, and infrastructure that scale with our customer base and perform reliably for our users.
  • Product development: Work closely with the engineering and product team to plan, architect, and implement features. Your work will lean heavily toward the backend and API, but you’ll collaborate closely with frontend engineers and always think holistically about the product.
  • Integrations: Build and maintain robust integrations with third-party platforms—some modern and well-documented, others more outdated and opaque. You’ll grow to be a leader on the team’s integrations ecosystem and an expert on our external-facing systems and solutions.
  • Team building: Be an active part of shaping Siteline's culture, helping to recruit and mentor new team members and cultivating a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
