About The Position
ResortPass is redefining what it means to be a hotel guest by providing daytime access to hotel amenities like pools, beaches, and spas without requiring an overnight stay. With over 2,700 hotel partners in 30 countries, ResortPass has served millions of guests and generated significant revenue for its partners. The company is now focused on building a robust booking and distribution platform to expand its reach across more guests, categories, and channels. This role is crucial for developing the platform that will support diverse offerings such as day passes, cabana reservations, massage appointments, event ticketing, and food and beverage packages, all managed through a unified booking domain. The platform needs to handle varying rules for pricing, inventory, fulfillment, and cancellation, and ensure inventory is accessible across multiple channels including ResortPass, hotel systems, distribution partners, and authorized booking agents. The Senior Software Engineer will lead the technical development of the ResortPass API, aiming to enable real bookings through this API by multiple distribution partners and an AI agent within the first year. The role involves evolving a production Rails and Postgres booking system, focusing on critical aspects like maintaining accurate pricing and inventory, preventing overselling, ensuring system resilience against failures, and reconciling discrepancies between systems.
Requirements
- 6+ years of software engineering experience, or a track record of equivalent impact.
- Designed transactional systems, built external APIs or integration platforms, and safely evolved data models in production.
- Understand relational modeling, concurrency, consistency, asynchronous workflows, and distributed failures.
- Ability to turn complex business rules into clear boundaries, lifecycle states, contracts, and invariants.
- Ability to lead an important system as its primary builder while collaborating on foundational decisions.
- Care about correctness, testing, observability, and safe rollouts.
- Communicate directly, listen well, and improve the work of engineers around you.

- Experience with marketplaces, reservations, inventory-constrained commerce, public APIs, or third-party booking systems.
Responsibilities
- Build and launch the external ResortPass API, defining stable, versioned contracts for live pricing, availability, holds, booking creation, changes, and cancellations.
- Ensure booking operations are safe under real failures by designing idempotency, recovery, webhooks, and reconciliation for retries, timeouts, duplicates, and partial success.
- Evolve the core booking domain by creating clear models and invariants for products, schedules, prices, inventory, holds, carts, and bookings.
- Make the platform extensible by proving that new categories like events or food and beverage can use the shared booking model instead of requiring a separate system.
- Own the architecture for supply, PMS, and POS integrations, creating reusable connector patterns for other engineers.
- Define data contracts to keep inventory discoverable through OpenSearch.
- Operate what you build by setting reliability and latency targets and implementing necessary tests, metrics, dashboards, alerts, tracing, and runbooks for critical booking paths.
- Turn partner needs into durable platform capabilities, explain tradeoffs clearly, and raise the engineering bar through practical reviews and mentoring.
