About The Position

The Senior Software Engineer, Autonomy Behavior Testing will transform Nuro’s Verification & Validation (V&V) ecosystem through technical implementation, standardization, and automation of V&V processes. The role creates a unified, automated architecture for validation, streamlines triage workflows, and improves testing pipelines to support informed, data-driven autonomy development. Test results produced by this work help demonstrate system safety and support the Autonomy Safety Case. The role is part of the Systems Engineering team, which defines requirements, architecture, performance metrics, evaluation methods, and validation criteria for autonomous driving capabilities across engineering disciplines. The team works across hardware, software, and robot operations. This position is eligible for an annual performance bonus, equity, and a competitive benefits package. The reasonably expected base pay range is $160,360 to $291,150 at the level for which the job is scoped; compensation depends on factors including experience, qualifications, education, location, and skills.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of technical work experience in a relevant area.
  • At least 3 years of experience testing autonomous vehicles or robotic systems.
  • Hands-on software experience and ability to code in Python or C++ for automation and tooling development.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and managing large-scale simulation or test automation pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering concepts related to autonomy architecture, particularly the interactions among sensing, perception, prediction, and planning modules.
  • Strong collaboration, analytical thinking, and communication skills to drive cross-functional projects and provide technical guidance to partner teams such as Simulation and Data Platform.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with large-scale simulation, behavior verification, or Fault Detection and Response testing for L2+ autonomous systems.
  • Prior experience defining and implementing triage prioritization strategies and workflows.
  • Familiarity with linking test results as evidence to support the Autonomy Safety Case.
  • Experience implementing testing pipelines, validation tooling, and triage workflows for complex projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement automated test pipelines and tooling that Systems engineers can adopt easily and with minimal friction.
  • Drive standardization across testing modalities by designing, implementing, and managing unified triage workflows across workstreams.
  • Establish a continuous feedback loop to improve V&V processes, including leading root cause analyses and identifying testing gaps with Systems engineers.
  • Translate identified system and pipeline gaps into concrete technical requests for partner teams, such as Data Platform, Simulation, and Infra.
  • Collaborate with partner teams to validate implemented solutions, providing technical guidance, code review, and documentation to ensure solutions are scalable and meet Systems engineers’ needs.
  • Generate test results that support the Autonomy Safety Case.

Benefits

  • Annual performance bonus
  • Equity
  • Competitive benefits package
