About The Position

NewsBreak is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Android to join their AI-Native Client Platform team. This role involves rebuilding how mobile software is shipped, with a focus on AI-assisted development. Engineers will design architecture, conventions, and guardrails for both human and AI collaboration across their flagship app and new products. The role has a dual mandate: approximately half the time will be spent advancing the platform and the other half shipping user-facing features. The goal is to reduce the cost and time of shipping features through platform improvements. Requirements

5+ years of experience building Android apps at scale.
Deep knowledge of Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
Proven experience owning app-level architecture and its consequences.
Experience verifying code, including AI-generated code, before shipping.

Nice To Haves

Cross-platform experience (Kotlin Multiplatform, Flutter, or React Native).
Experience with developer tooling or CI quality gates that measurably improved team speed.

Responsibilities

Architect Android systems for the flagship app and new products, ensuring code legibility for engineers and AI agents.
Drive modularization by extracting shared capabilities for cross-app use.
Ship user-facing features end-to-end (growth, feed, new-app product needs) using an AI-assisted workflow.
Set the quality bar for AI-assisted development, including review standards, safety nets, and release gates.
Solve complex performance and production issues, and create playbooks for the team.
Improve the AI-assisted workflow to enable faster shipping of features.
